"(Y/N), are you ok? You've barely touched your food", mum frowned at the sight of my picking at my vegetables with my fork. I sent her a shrug, not glancing up from my dinner, which now had tiny holes everywhere. "You haven't caught a cold, have you?". She leaned towards me, pressing her palm and the back her hand on my forehead to check for a temperature. When she realised that I wasn't sick, her anxiety increased.
"Did something happen at the sleepover?", she asked, hoping to get an answer out of me. I placed my fork down next to my plate, and glanced up at her, resting my elbows on the table as I used both hands to support my head.
"Mum, hypothetically, say I told you I saw something. Something supernatural or completely ridiculous, would you believe me?".
My mother was utterly baffled by the arbitrary question that suddenly came out of my mouth. She didn't know how to respond to it. "Well, I'd have my doubts", she spoke, not knowing whether she said the right thing or not. "But, no matter what, I will always believe you".
That did make me feel a little better. But, inside, I knew what mum told me wouldn't help in Steven's case. Steven isn't someone who would lie or make things up. So, I have a hard time not believing him.
Finally, I began eating. Although, my food was now cold, so it wasn't as appetising as I would've liked it to be. Suddenly, my phone began to vibrate relentlessly. Informing me that I had countless notifications. My mother was bothered by the constant vibrations and she didn't try to hide it.
I picked up my phone from the table and turned it on. "Come on, we've talked about this; No phones on the table", mum protested, although she didn't try to take my phone away from my grasp. I neglected her complaining and scrolled through my notifications to see who left me so many messages. When I read them, I was thoroughly shocked and practically fixed to my seat.
Steven
(Y/N)! you have to get over here! i found the thing from the warp stream!
Steven
(Y/N) answer your phone! its going to get away!
Steven
its trying to get to the warp pad. where are you???
Why does Steven think I can just drop everything so I can come to his house? At this point, I had no clue what to do. I couldn't tell mum what was going on. I couldn't just leave, thinking it wouldn't raise suspicion. What do I do?
"Uh...I have to use the bathroom!", I blurted out to my mum, struggling to get out of my seat. My mother raised a brow, glancing down at my half-eaten dinner and confused about what she put in it to make me so desperate to use the toilet. As soon as I got on my feet, I sped to the bathroom, ignoring my mum calling me back to the table.
I opened the door and closed it firmly behind me, locking the door so mum wouldn't come in and find me gone. I put down the toilet lid and climbed on top of it. I promptly opened the bathroom window, fumbling with the lock and pushed myself outside.
For once, I was glad that Steven's house was so close to mine, so it didn't take me long to reach it. I rushed up the stairs, tripping and stumbling over my own feet as I got up to the veranda. From there, I began pounding on the door, apprehensively calling out Steven's name in a state of frenzy.
It didn't help ease my mind when Amethyst answered the door instead of Steven. Not waiting for her to permit me to come in, I hurried inside the house anyways. My eyes darted to every corner of the house, but I was unable to locate him.
