Chapter 3

"Aluna"

Oasis's POV

12:00 AM

The border patrols start always at 8:30, when it turns to night in Virescent and ends usually after two to three hours, depending on how long it would take to destroy all the Vicese present outside of the Virescent border. And this time, it took three hours

Oasis sits on her bed in the dark in her shared room with Callista, her teammate. She stares at the wooden window, located above her twin bed. Outside the window is the endless starry sky, filled with many unexplored places. Oasis sometimes wishes to disappear into the sky and be at peace.

Oasis contemplates on the meaning of life as she tries to fall asleep. She forces her eyes to close but still, she cannot sleep.

"Callista, are you awake?" Quietly, she whispers just in case Callista is sleeping.

"No, it's hard to sleep anyway. It's not like we can forget what happened. People can really be scary sometimes."
Callista shudders as she remembers what happened. Oasis nods, agreeing with her statement.

~Memory~

Phoenix's POV

"AMETHYST!" Phoenix shouts as she pushes her away from the attack. A sharp pain hits Phoenix as she realizes one of the mutated animals had bit her. With her axe, she decapitates its head, making it tumble to the floor. Blood spews out the head like a water fountain as Phoenix grips onto her left shoulder.

"I'm coming to heal you!" Amethyst shouts as she rushes towards her.

Without warning another one pops up to the right of her and bites her other shoulder, stopping Amethyst from heading any closer. Phoenix winces and takes a deep breath, trying not to panic.

Why are they stronger than before?

As she takes a deep breath, she notices something off. 'RAMPAGE' written on a piece of paper. Amethyst notices something familiar about it.

"T-That's Aluna's-" Before she can finish, Phoenix takes out her axe that spews out dark energy from it and decapitates the other mutant. Losing strength, Phoenix falls to the floor, kneeling. As she tries to stand up, she notices someone towering over her. The school president, Aluna.

Aluna claps her tainted hands slowly, filled with the blood of the mutants. In a harsh voice, she says, "I would've had more fun watching you die. But I guess you being injured is acceptable."

Phoenix tightens her right shoulder harder to keep it from bleeding. "What the fuck is wrong with you... This is your doing isn't it?!" She grabs the piece of enhanced paper placed on the mutant and glares into her purple eyes.

"So what if it is? It's not like I'm directly hurting you." Smug, Aluna grins eerily as she crosses her arms.

"Well I'm sorry to break it to you, but you'll be dead before you can even kill me." With a serious tone, she glares daggers at Aluna.

Frustrated, Aluna forcefully grabs the collar of Phoenix's trench coat and ends up eye to eye. "Listen Phoenix, you don't know what I can do. So either your team stands down from the battles or I'll really kill you."

Stand down? Wait... is it because I was the MVP?

Before Phoenix could reply back, Amethyst harshly pushes Aluna. "Stop it!"

Amethyst rushes to check both of Phoenix's shoulders. "It's really bad, if we don't treat the wound it can become infected." Rose gold particles start surround her hands as Amethyst heals Phoenix, just enough so she could stand.
