Chapter 17: Finally Understanding

Ymir's titan hand wrapped around Historia's whole body, one claw stroking her hair. Historia focused on Ymir's boulder sized, pitch black titan eyes. There was something about them that was so distant but still so sad.

No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't understand them and their owner, even though she felt like it was her duty to be the one to understand. She just couldn't understand how supporting two mass murderers could ever be the right thing to do. Despite this, she knew it was. She knew that Ymir's side was always going to be the side she'd be on. No matter what, they'd always be allies. Historia had no control over the situation, as she barely knew what was going on, but she would try her hardest to stick with Ymir.

That was when two heart-shattering words bellowed out the selfless beast's mouth.

"I sorry"

Shock, confusion, anger, guilt all played in Historia's mind, clogging up her throat and intoxicating her, as the reticent giant let go of her, turning away and running in the opposite direction.

"Welcome all. Our discussion today will focus on what we should do now that Annie Leonhart's crystal has been broken and future plans against Marley", Zackly announced, "you may take your seats".

Historia took her seat on the long forgotten and unused throne at the top of the room. She wondered how many voiceless, puppet Kings and Queens had sat on this very seat. It was only three years ago that they had decided that having a useless Queen on display during their conferences was unnecessary, and therefore stopped inviting her. Now she was back, sitting on the same throne but, this time, she would have a louder voice.

"So, Heros of Shiganshina, what do you propose?", Zackly questioned, looking down at the Levi Squad.
Eren was the first to stand up and speak.
"We must go to Marley and attack immediately. We should destroy their ports and steal as many titan powers as possible", Eren said, enthusiastically, "we need to prove our power to the world and show them how much we have developed in the past four years!".

"That's fucking idiotic", Historia blurted out.
Everyone's heads turned towards Historia, shocked at her sudden outburst.
"What do you propose then, my Queen", Zackly asked, his face suggesting that he somewhat regretted allowing Historia to attend.
Historia cleared her throat and stood up to speak.

"Well, we should start by talking to Miss Leonhart and getting her on our side. Then we could perhaps send her back to Marley to sway the other titan shifters. We have no reason to attack, since the world already fears us and that's why they want to eradicate us", Historia told them, "no matter how you look at it, we are a threat to the world and we are in a very good position, in their perspective. We have the world flattening weapon, so of course they'd want to kill us. We also have five of the nine titans here on this island".

"You're forgetting something", Captain Levi's callous voice spoke, "Annie Leonhart was the cause for countless deaths. She wiped out the whole of my former squad, despite the fact that they were some of the best soldiers the scouting regiment had ever seen. That brat is a killing machine".

"I'm not saying she's a good person", Historia replied, "but she is an individual. A powerful individual, at that. She had her own reasons for following Marley's orders and she has a close connection to some other powerful individuals. On top of that, we're all Eldians so, surely, we all have a common interest to end the suffering of our race and bring peace".

"This plan sounds very risky. What if Annie were to just pretend to be on our side so that we send her back to Marley? Then we'd loose the Female Titan", Zackly stated, "It's not a good idea to go forward with it when the risks are so high".
"Also, the people of Paradis want fast progress, so I think it's best if you just send me to attack Marley", Eren added.
