i was lying on the deck again, cradled in your arms. yet another gorgeous sunset painted the sky dark shades of red and blue and pink.

"wow, would you look at that," your eyes sparkled in the light of the horizon.

"it's so red," i breathed out. you turned to look at me, amused.

"really?"

"what?"

"is that how you would describe a painting? just red?" you smiled at me teasingly.

"well, what would you say it is?" i snuggled up closer to your chest.

you stared intensely at the sky. "i'd say it's more like a beet dyed pomegranate."

i laughed out loud. only you could make me laugh like that.

"ladies and gentlemen, bob ross!" i exclaimed. "it's definitely red."

"no, but like a hint of mandarin-"

"red."

"a splash of cardamon."

"red." i insisted. you gave up and looked at me fondly.

"red sky at night-"

"sailor's delight." i finished for you. we stared at each other for at least a minute before you turned away, blushing.

"aw, look at you," i teased, trying to turn your head back.

you refused, embarrassed.

"lemme see your cheeks," i cooed. in my effort to get you to look at me, i ended up sprawled on top of you in a laughing heap.

"let me guess, they're red," you said.

i giggled. "no, they're more like a... sizzly salmon ketchup."

we both laughed until our stomachs hurt. i wish we could go back to those days.

back to when we didn't have a care in the world and back to when the skies were red.
