"kookie!"

my eyes flutter open and i squint up at the sun. the sounds of birds chirping fill my ears and i inhale the sweet smell of flowers and dirt.

i push myself up and turn to see taehyung standing there with his classic boxy smile.

"there you are," he says cheekily.

"taehyung?" a wave of confusion washes over me. "where are we? wait, your ribs -- you shouldn't be standing." 

i quickly stand up and press a hand carefully onto taehyung's abdomen. he smiles and places his own hand over mine.

"you're- you're better," i stutter in disbelief. "how? what is this place?"

instead of answering, taehyung presses his lips against mine. i immediately sink into his warmth and return the kiss, but he quickly pulls away.

"you're strong, kookie," he says. there's a strange look in his eyes. "i'm so sorry i dragged you into this."

i shake my head. "you're here with me. that's all that matters."

he looks away. a gust of wind blows through the area, rustling the laves of the trees surrounding us.

"forgive me." he whispers. 

i blink. "what?"

his eyes, now shining with tears, meet mine. he starts to back away. "you're the greatest thing that's ever happened to me." he says. "i'm sorry."

"what are you talking about?" i start to panic. "where are you going?"

i desperately grab onto taehyung's hand, trying to pull him back towards me but he only moves further away. i feel his fingers slipping out of my grasp.

"live," his whisper seems to echo all around me.

"no, don't leave me," tears start spilling over my lashes. "please stay with me!"

taehyung slips further into the shadows of the trees. i try to run towards him, but i can't move. my arms stay outstretched, grabbing at nothing but air.

"taehyung!" i wail. "come back!"

i see one last glimpse of his smile and his mouth opens to say something before he disappears into the shadows.

"i'll love you forever."
