Chapter 30

❇ Ava Johnson

"It's getting pretty late Cody, I should be heading home by no-"

"Six isn't late Avie, I have something to show you." He grinned driving on into the road. I've had the loveliest day with Cody, he eventually got the stress off of my shoulders and turned it into a ball of positive energy.

We had just went to a candy store and made one another cupcakes. He made me the cutest cupcake ever with cranberry and vanilla filling filled with a surprise pill shaped sweet. It was red.

We were driving in the mountains and I couldn't help but take out my phone to take pictures. It was golden hour.

Unfortunately my phone was dead so I took Cody's instead. Damn, I should get myself an XR as well. I took a few pics of myself, and I have to say I never looked more beautiful. "Face the screen you dweeb I'm trying to take pictures here." I whined pouting and shooting some more pictures.

He let out a frustrated groan and faced the camera finally. We made silly faces, smiled, serious faces, tongues out and more.

I started editing the pics, giggling at how cute this guys pout is until he spoke up.

"Welcome to the Stephenson household." He said driving around a fountain. I couldn't believe my eyes until he opened the door for me. I can easily open it myself but the last time I did that he yelled at me so here we are.

I breath hitched as I saw the beautiful white two storied house that had green vines walking up its walls with bloodshot roses popping out here and there to say I was wowed is an understatement.

I turned around in the same spot, on my left was a hill with a pathway and to my right was what it seemed a maze? This place was absolutely breathtaking.

"Are you coming?!" He yelled from a distance, I looked around until I saw his back fading up the hill. I quickly jogged after him.

When we got to the top my heart sank. The sky, a pink-orange-purpleish color as the sun kissed the lake as it was setting in the far West. It was indescribably beautiful. The universes creation was truly a masterpiece.

I didn't even realize that I was sitting on a large flat rock until Cody laid on his back with his hands behind his head looking at the sky.

I did the same and swallowed my stunning surroundings. "This place is so beautiful, do you come here often?" I asked in a small voice hearing the rustling weeds being brushed by the wind.

"I come here when I want to think, get away from this ugly world. You're actually the first person to ever be up here." He said turning his face to look at me.

I faced him and my god a specimen of my own never looked this beguiling ever! His hair was tousled, the sun kissing his sharp jawline which casted a shadow to the bridge of his nose. The glint in his eyes making his hazel eyes lighter.

Beauty.

"-Ava? Are you zoning out on me?" A deep voice said. I face palmed myself mentally when I noticed that I was staring at him.

"Uh, uhm I-I, what?" I stuttered stupidly and he laughed. Of course, you stutter now because you're so near him.

It went silent for a moment, the weeds still rustling. We shared an intense eye contact moment. We have these all the time, but today's was different. As if we were searching for our souls in each others eyes. The proximity of our faces made it an alien setting.

I cleared my throat sitting up. Him still laying next to me.

A few minutes went by as a comfortable silence indulged our surroundings. "Let's try something." He said simply.
