I stepped out of my brothers car, watching people do trick after trick. I grabbed my board out of the back, thanking him for driving me here. He sped off instantly.
I walked into the slate park, moving past people to get to the ramps. There's not as many girls as I thought there would be. I placed my board by my feet, breathing deeply.
I practiced for years, you got this. They're holding a comp today, I'm competing for the first time ever. There's a few hundred people here right now.
I stepped down, taking off. I pulled a few stunts, people clapped a little. After hours of practicing, I got a name tag, entering in. I was fixing the straps on my elbow pads when a board rolled over and hit my foot.
I looked up, saying a boy about my age running towards me. "Hi, sorry. My friends were messing with me," He chuckled, bending down to get his board. I snickered, shaking my head. He was cute for a skater boy.
"I'm Zach," He ran his fingers threw his hair before holding it out to me. "Y/N," I smiled, shaking it. "You're competing?" He looked down at my tag. "Yeah, you?" I asked, looking for his. "Uh no, not this one."
His voice wasn't too deep but wasn't high pitched either. His hair was at a perfect length and just the right color. He had a few freckles around his nose too. I looked back to my pads, shaking a bit.
"I gotta get back to my friends. We should hang out after this. I'll be cheering you on." He grinned. "Oh uh yeah, sure. Where?"
"Anywhere you wanna go," I nodded, taking in his offer. "If I place top five, you buy my ice cream." I raised an eyebrow, waiting to see his reaction. "There's about one hundred skaters here, I doubt you'll place top five. But sure, deal."
We shook on it as they started calling first round. Eventually I went, doing the best tricks I could think of. It was all nerve racking.
Soon enough, it all came to an end. They started announcing names, lowest to highest. They were down to the top ten and my name still hasn't been called.
I crossed my fingers, praying for top five. I really wanted to get ice cream with Zach, it wasn't even about winning anymore.
"In fourth place... Y/F/N!"
I gasped, gripping my board tighter to my side. They placed a medal around my neck, congratulating me. After everything was over, I ran down to find Zach.
He stood by the exiting gate, smiling widely at me. "Wow, I'm impressed. Ice cream?" He chuckled, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
"I think I deserve more then ice cream but I'll take what I can get." I smirked, placing an arm around his waist from behind. "How bout a date? Tomorrow night?" I looked up at him, "Sure thing skater boy."
