Chapter 16

BEATRIZ

I woke up because I badly needed to pee. I tried to move but there seems to be like an unknown weight pressing down on me.

I opened my eyes and looked down to see Jhoana sleeping while her head was comfortably resting on my chest.

Napangiti ako just by looking at her. She looks so peaceful. This is the first time that I'm this close to Jhoana, physically and probably emotionally too.

I played with her hair for a couple of minutes until I checked my phone and saw a couple of texts and missed calls from my mom. Hindi naman siya galit pero sobra daw siyang nag aalala.

She even told me na if hindi pa daw kaya namin ni Jho na bumyahe mamaya, pwede parin naman kami mag palipas ng isa pang araw dito because she said it would be safer kaysa naman ma aksidente sa kalsada.

I quickly typed in a reply to her using my one free hand kahit na ang hirap ng posisyon ko ngayon dahil kay Jhoana. I told mom that we will be home today and she just told me to drive safe.

I hid my phone and shut my eyes again trying to sleep because it's still early but just when I'm about to cuddle Jhoana, her phone rang.

Mama calling....

I answered the call immediately because I didn't want to wake Jho up and gently placed her head on the pillow.

I ran and opened the terrace doors at lumabas para hindi ma istorbo si Jhoana.

"Hello?" I asked a little bit nervous because I was scared that I may freak out Jho's mom kasi iba ang sumagot sa phone ng anak niya.

"Hello? Jhoana?" I can tell that Jho's mom was confused by the tone of her voice.

"Good morning po, tita. Tulog po kasi si Jhoana ngayon. I'm her friend, si Bea po." I politely replied.

"Ahh, si Bea. Yes I know you, ikaw yung kasama ng anak ko sa carpool! Thank you for always bringing my daughter home safely."

Napangiti naman ako kahit di ako nakikita ni tita.

"No worries, tita. Saka oo nga po pala, don't worry po safe kami ni Jho. We're in a motel here in Laguna kaya hindi naman po kami na abutan ng bagyo sa daan."

"Hay salamat, mabuti naman kung ganon. Drive safely ha, umalis nalang kayo pag okay na ang panahon."

"Yes po. I'll tell Jhoana nalang po that you called."

"Thank you, Bea. Tawag nalang ako mamaya. Ingat kayo ah."

Binaba na ni tita ang call kaya pumasok na ako ng kwarto. There I saw Jhoana rubbing her eyes and searching the room for something.

Yun pala that something was me, because as soon as she saw me she smiled widely and sighed in relief.

"Andiyan ka lang pala." Habang hinawakan pa ni Jho ang dibdib niya. "I was so scared akala ko kung napano ka nanaman ulit."

I laughed and sat beside her.

"You're so OA. May kinausap lang ako ayoko lang magising ka."

"OA ka diyan." She frowned. "Nakakatakot kaya yung itsura mo kagabi, para akong nasa thriller movie kumukulog at kumikidlat tapos nahanap kita umiiyak sa sulok ng terrace."

Natawa ako lalo because she's so cute when she's rambling.

"Sino ba kasi kausap mo?" She asked. Sumandal siya ulit sa kama at nag kumot.
