Chapter 23

JHOANA

"Bei!" I shouted while I ran barefoot, carrying my pair of heels. "Stop!"

Mas lalo kong binilisan tumakbo nang makita kong palabas na siya ng parking lot. Lumiko ang sasakyan ni Bea kaya medyo naunahan ko siya.

"Beatriz!" I shouted and jumped in front of her car. A screeching sound of tires echoed the quiet and dim parking lot.

Kitang kita ko kung paano lumaki yung mga mata ni Beatriz through the windshield. She unbuckled her seatbelt and immediately went out of the car. Her face fuming with anger.

"What the fuck are you doing, Jhoana? Muntik na kita mabangga!" She shouted. This is the first time I've ever seen Bea this mad. "Nababaliw ka ba?!"

"I-I just wanted to check if you were okay, Bei. I saw your texts and you said you were at the back dun sa bar kaya I assumed nakainom ka." Her face softened after my short ramble. "I can't let you drive k-kaya pinigilan kita."

I stared into her eyes but she quickly avoided mine.

"You don't have to do that, Jho. I can handle this myself, okay ako. Bumalik ka na dun." She said coldly.

"Lasing ka."

"I am not. Hindi ako lasing. Bumalik ka na kay Nico." Bea rolled her eyes. She turned around and marched her way back to her car.

Oo, siguro nga hindi siya lasing pero nakainom parin siya. Ayoko lang na may mangyaring masama sakanya.

"Bei, please. Sasamahan kita, sasama ako sayo." I firmly stated.

I jogged my way to the shotgun seat and quickly opened the door before she could even lock it. I hopped inside the pickup and stared at Bea who had an annoyed and shocked expression on her face.

"Bumaba ka nga—"

"Nope. Kung ayaw mo akong mag drive eh di sasama nalang ako whether you like it or not."

"Hinahanap ka na ni Nico. You ditched your date."

Now, I was the one who's getting irritated.

"Bakit ba Nico ka ng Nico?!" I asked annoyed. "Beatriz, andito na nga ako diba?"

She scoffed.

"Sinabi ko bang pumunta ka dito? Why are you even here?!"

"You texted me!" I answered back as I raised my phone. Bea just shook her head.

"Kanina yun, that was before I saw you with..." She mumbled but didn't finish her sentence as she looked away.

"Basta, Jho. Umalis ka na, I didn't ask for you to follow me."

I sighed.

"I'm here because I want to be here. I'm here because I want to be with you kaysa sa kanila. I care about you, Bei. Hindi mo ba gets yun?" I rambled again, frustration evident from my voice.

Napatingin naman agad si Bea dahil sa lahat ng mga sinabi ko.

"Now please," I looked at her. "Sasama ako, bahala ka na kung san mo gusto pumunta, andito lang ako."

She sighed and then slowly started the engine. We drove in silence. Walang tugtog sa radyo, walang nagsasalita. Yung tunog lang ng sasakyan yung naririnig.

I can still feel the tension inside the car.  Bea would tighten her grip on the steering wheel from time to time, I'd glance at her face and see how her jaw's still clenched.
