BEATRIZ

"Ayoko nga! If that's not your former teammates ayoko may gagawin ako! Uuwi nalang ako mag isa." Sunod sunod na sabi ni Jhoana.

Hinila ko siya ulit.

"You literally just said 'wala naman akong gagawin today' five seconds ago." I replied while trying my hardest to copy her voice.

"Binabawi ko na." Masungit niyang sabi.

"Nope. Wala nang bawian kakasabi mo lang eh." I poked her cheeks as she harshly swatted my hand away.

"Wala ka bang assignments sa bahay?"

"None." I lied.

Tambak na ata gawain ko sa bahay.

"Bea naman eh."

"Please, buddy. Pleaaasee?" I pouted.

Jhoana sighed and looked at me. She finally nodded slowly and entered the car.

"Pasalamat ka gutom ako ulit." She mumbled.

Natawa nalang ako with the way she acted. But as I was about go to the driver's seat, my phone rang.

It was my mom.

I sighed and rolled my eyes, contemplating if I should answer it or not. I'm sure she's just calling to convince me more about tomorrow's birthday celebration of dad's friend.

"Hello?"

"Bea, are you not coming home for lunch?"

"I'm with my friends. Kakain na po kami dito."

There was silence on the other line before mom spoke again.

"I'm sorry about what happened earlier, Beatriz."

I shook my head even though she couldn't see me. Hindi naman siya yung dapat humingi ng tawad.

"No, mom. Ako dapat yung mag apologize for my actions awhile ago. Sorry because you had to witness that. Promise po, I'll try to be as quiet as possible next time. Hindi ko na papatulan sina dad and kuya."

I heard her sigh on the other line.

"I'm sorry if we were being insensitive about your studies. But don't worry I'll talk to your dad, I'm sure the Evangelistas will understand if—"

My eyebrows furrowed. Evangelistas? Could it be....

"Wait, mom." I interrupted her again. "I'm sorry but kaninong party ulit yung pupuntahan natin?"

"Richard Evangelista. I think his son is your batch mate pa nga in Ateneo. I forgot his name though."

"Si Nico po ba?" I carefully asked.

"Yes, that's the one. Why dear are you two good friends?"

I smirked.

"Yes, yes we are."

"Well then I'm sure Nico will understand if you can't come."

"No, mom! Sasama na po ako." I exclaimed.

Kahit ako nagulat at naiirita ngayon sa ginagawa ko. So are we really at this point already? Gagawin ko na lahat para lang makita si Jho?

I mean ever since na aminin ko sa sarili kong gusto ko si Jhoana, I haven't really tried to give out signals kasi natatakot ako. Ngayon pa ba ako aamin kung kailan close na kami?
