I looked at myself in the mirror one last time, sighing at the bags under my eyes. It didn't matter how much concealer I put on, nothing seemed to cover them.
I had been sleeping well- ever since Luke told me that someone had broken into my apartment. Something about that whole day just didn't feel right and I had been on edge ever since. Luke didn't seem to notice, which I was glad for. I didn't want to bring it- seeing as he clearly didn't think anything of it... but I really hadn't been able to sleep since. Something in my gut was just telling me to be on high alert. I just didn't know for what.
I closed my eyes as I spritzed my face with makeup setting spray, taking one last look at myself in the mirror. The maroon dress fell just a couple inches past my knee, the thin straps barely holding the dress over my shoulders, and the slight v-neck showing just enough of my chest to be classy- not slutty.
"Babe, we got to get going, Ashton will kill us if we're late." Luke's voice carried through the closed door.
"Yes I'm aware." I chuckled as I opened the door, eyeing him briefly before running over to my bag. I dug through the duffel bag I had been living out of until I found my purse, dropping my lip gloss into it before throwing the strap over my shoulder. "I thought you voted to stay here?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow as I repeated what he had said barely an hour ago.
He smirked lowly as he made his way over to me. I watched him as he put his hands on my hips, pulling my body flush against his in a matter of seconds. "Seeing you in that dress, I'm starting to think maybe we should." My breath hitched when he ducked his head quickly as if he were going to kiss me. He just barely let his lips brush against mine before dragging them across my cheek, stopping at my ear. "Maybe we can be just a few minutes late."
I lightly shoved him at his words, smiling up at him before grabbing my black strappy heels from my bag. "Ashton is nervous enough as it is, he would one hundred percent kill you if we were late." I stated, strapping on my shoes before walking back over to him. I smiled as I took in his appearance- a white button up with the top few buttons undone covering his torso, black dress pants adorning his legs, and his favorite pair of boots on his feet. His hair was getting longer, my hand raising to pet lightly through the curls.
"Me? What about you? You are just as important here."
I shrugged. "Yeah, he'd be mad at me... but he would actually murder you... full homicidal maniac on your ass."
"Hmm." He hummed, slipping on a jacket before grabbing his wallet. "I want to give you something before we leave."
"We don't have time." I giggled, my hands pushing gently on his shoulders as he attempted to attach his lips to my neck. He grinned when he pulled back, looking down at me amusedly. I watched him carefully when he reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out a small box. "Luke-"
"Calm down, it's not what you think it is." He murmured, chuckling at my reaction. Though my jaw dropped even more when he opened the velvet box, a ring laying softly at the bottom. My wide eyes met his, that amused glint still lingering in his eyes. I looked back down at the small box, watching as he lifted it out- the ring hanging off a chain as he pulled it out. He motioned for me to turn around, my body moving without really thinking about it.
I shivered as he pulled my hair to the side, goosebumps raising on my skin when the cool metal landed in the center of my chest. Instantly my hand shot up, grabbing a hold of the ring dangling around my neck, staring at it curiously. The ring held a crystal of some sort, the band a rose gold, and it was dangling on a rose gold chain that Luke had just clasped around my neck. "Luke... what is this?"
"A gift." He shrugged.
"Luke, where did you get this?"
"Well," He sighed, turning me around to look at him. "About a year ago my grandma passed away- breast cancer." I gasped lightly at his words, though there was still a small smile on his face. "When my mum and I went through her house to clear it out, I found her ring and for some reason kept it. I've had ever since and I-I... I wanted to give it to you... as a new start, I guess."
