My hands twitched at my sides, my eyes glaring at the phone on the edge of the hotel bed. My heart was pounding hard in my chest, my cheeks red from either anger or annoyance... probably a mix of both. It was the fourth time he had called her phone in the ten minutes since she had left to go shower. Ten minutes and he had been calling her every two minutes... clearly not getting the hint that she wasn't answering.
I had noticed over the past week that he seemed to call more often than she claimed that he did- seeing as I noticed his name pop up on her phone at least twice a day. I had seen her ignore his calls a couple times, quickly hiding her phone before she thought I would notice. She was never quick enough, though. I was half tempted to answer it again, but I knew it would cause another fight. And I didn't want another fight.
We hadn't actually been fighting, but I was afraid that if we were to start fighting again then it would never stop. We seemed to be in a good place- albeit a weird place- but a good place nonetheless.
I sighed heavily when her screen went dark again, hoping with everything in me that he wouldn't call again. Of course I had no such luck.
My feet carried me quickly toward the bathroom, whipping open the door as fast as I could before I was pacing the small area in front of the shower.
"Yes?" She questioned, peaking her head around the curtain.
I opened my mouth ready to say something, but ended up closing it once more. "I-I... I just missed you." I shrugged, trying to play it off. I could tell she didn't believe me though, as she narrowed her eyes at me before letting the curtain close once more.
"I told you you could join me." She muttered, my lips twitching upwards. Ever since that night I stayed at her apartment, the night we thought someone broke in, we seemed to have gone back to normal. I could tell every now and then we were both unsure of what was okay and not okay to do, but we managed. I was just glad it felt as though the hole in my chest had been healed- that a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
I had my best friend back. I had the girl I loved back. I just hoped it wasn't too good to be true.
"Well that would just have been counterproductive." I mumbled, leaning against the sink as I stared at the shower. I could faintly see the outline of her body, her head tilted back as she let the water run over her. I debated jumping in with her then and there. "You said you needed to shower to get the smell of sex off of you-"
"Yeah yeah yeah." She interrupted me, a slight giggle slipping from her lips. "Are you going to tell me what you actually came in here for? I can see you're annoyed."
"I'm not annoyed."
"No? Angry then?"
"No." I murmured, though now that she was asking about it I was slightly getting annoyed again. I really should've just joined her.
"Luke, please don't lie to me."
"Oh you're one to talk." The words slipped out before I could stop them, and I instantly regretted them. I couldn't actually see her face, but from where I was it seemed like her shoulders had dropped and her head was suddenly in her hands. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean that."
"You did." She muttered, the water finally shutting off. "But its okay. I deserve it." When she pulled the curtain aside she didn't look at me. She kept her eyes low as she went to reach for her towel. I reached out before she grab it, taking a hold of her hand before stepping in front of her. She still didn't look at me, even when I let go of her hand to rest them on her hips. She shivered under my touch- that or the cold air was hitting her nude body after her hot shower. Though I was hoping it had more to do with me.
