"aw, poor baby." brendon caresses my cheek and pouts for me. "but, umm... i want to show you my surprise. can i do that?"
i smile and nod. he holds up a single finger and leaves the room without a word. within forty seconds, he comes back with a small pastel pink bundle in his arms. i cock my head curiously and he smiles, biting his lip as he sits down next to me.
he looks at me and i can see a loving sparkle in his eyes. "i have adopted a little baby girl."
i gasp and cover my mouth. "what?!"
he moves the corner of the pink blanket and shows me the face of the cutest boston terrier i've ever seen. i sigh a breath of relief and hold a hand to my chest.
"did you seriously think i adopted a human child?" feeling stupid, i nod. "i would never. not yet, anyways. her name is penny lane and she's nothing but joy."
"penny lane, that's adorable." he hands me the puppy and i melt at how tiny she is. "she's too precious!"
i can feel his eyes on me and i look at him. he smiles softly and i lean over to give him a small kiss. he puts a hand over the puppy's eyes and i laugh against his lips.
i don't think i can love anyone like i love him.
