Down But Not Out

Chapter 34

Note: Okay so I'm in a good mood and wasn't exhausted from college so I thought I'd post a few more chapters. I'm awesome like that. Josh's arms tightened around my body and he jumped us both out of the way of the oncoming car. We wrapped our arms around each other as I heard the driver curse at us before he drove out of hearing range, as we tried to regain our breathing from our feverish kisses and the sudden scare we'd had. For a second then I though something might happen to us, and I couldn't bare losing Josh now that I finally had him.

"Liz?" he asked and I nodded against his neck before pulling away. His hands found my face and he stroked every bit of skin on my face that he could touch before brushing his hand down through my hair before twirling it around his fingers.

"Are you okay?" he asked, sounding worried and I nodded.

"I'm fine. You?" I replied and I saw him nod in the dim light, since we'd somehow managed to move away from our place under the streetlight and back to the opposite side of the road which led down to the clearing.

"Good" I stated before slipping my photos into my bag to keep them safe. When I'd zipped it up I looked back up at Josh who was watching me so intently that I touched a hand to my face to make sure there was nothing there that he was staring at. I saw his lips pull up into a smile as he carried on playing with my hair.

"Lizzie?" he asked sounding nervous. I nodded at him and he took a deep breath, "-will you be my girlfriend?" he asked and I pressed my body closer to his again.

"Yes" I whispered into his ear and he breathed out in relief.

"Good, because you're the most beautiful, funny, amazing woman I know" he breathed and I bit my lip before kissing his temple, causing him to sigh.

We pulled back and Josh rushed to gather the teddies from the bench since I'd pointed them out, before he returned and twined my right hand in his as we stood next to each other, looking down the path to see if any of our friends were walking up. When it became clear they weren't, I began to worry slightly. I mean I knew there was a large group of them and that each of the girls probably wanted pictures with her guy but they shouldn't be taking this long. Should they?

"Should we go and see what's taking them so long?" I asked and Josh nodded. I looked at him to see that he looked worried as well. We walked down the path, swinging our hands between us before we emerged at the photo booth to see our friends were still there.

"How long does it take?" I asked them and they turned to look at Josh and I.

"We're glad you came back actually. You walked off and we wanted more pictures" Kayleigh said and I laughed.

"Okay, you twisted my arm" I sighed, walking over to her before she pulled me into the booth alongside her, where our photo session went crazy again as Josh and I took more photos with our friends.

"Okay, I think that's enough" Summer sighed leaning into Dan for a second before skipping back down to me. She brandished her roll of photos, holding them to me which I took, before taking mine out of my bag and giving them to her.

I slowly shuffled through her photos, holding them so that both Josh and I could see as we were walking side by side, with Josh's arm wrapped around my shoulders as our free hands squished the teddies into our sides. Actually I was a lot warmer for having Josh and the teddy against me. We laughed at some of the pictures she'd taken with Dan before I heard her scream in excitement.

"Holy shit, what's this?" she asked, thrusting the roll of my pictures under my nose so that I could see the photo of Josh and I kissing. I shrugged at my best friend before leaning against Josh.

"It's exactly what it looks like" I shrugged and she squealed again, throwing her arms around me, and Josh let go of me at the last second.

"Guys look at this!" she exclaimed and both Josh and I groaned at her enthusiasm. I loved Summer, but why did she think it was necessary to show everyone a picture of Josh and I kissing? Well, there are certain things that my best friend does that I will never understand.

Josh's hand took mine after I'd returned the photos to Dan, who was smiling at us both while Summer and the girls cooed over how cute Josh and I looked in our pictures.

"So are you two together now then?" Chris asked and Josh and I exchanged a glance before nodding.

"Yeah we are" I said, feeling a little shy as I could now see everyone taking in our clasped hands as we'd emerged on the street full of shops.

"It's about fucking time you two!" our friends exclaimed at the same time as each other and I felt myself blush again as I leaned closer to Josh who kissed my hair.

"Couldn't agree more" Josh replied and I looked up to see him looking down at me lovingly. I smiled back feeling myself bask in his gaze, and I knew I couldn't be any happier than what I was right now.

"You know what that means Liz?" Summer asked happily and I looked at her warily but shuck my head.

"We can double date" she said breathlessly, jumping up and down. Josh and I laughed at her enthusiasm.

"Looks that way doesn't it Summer?" Josh asked and my best friend smiled.

"You'd better look after her Josh" she glared and him and he nodded.

"Of course" he just said and I looked up to him as we made our way back to the hotel. He kissed my head and I closed my eyes at his touch before squeezing the hand that I was holding. I definitely couldn't be happier because Josh was an amazing guy who I was so proud to call my boyfriend.
