I was born differently you could say.
I didn't have some grand prophecy about my life like everyone else. I didn't have a path.
My family says that the prophet that was supposed to give me my prophecy died on the spot. The problem being she was 21 and didn't appear to be sick or unhealthy.

No one wanted to give me a prophecy after that, and I can see why. But, after that whole experience, I was very excited for my 13th birthday. Who wouldn't be? I wanted to learn my element fast. But, I soon learned that it was a mistake.
~~~
I woke up early in the morning and jumped out of my bed. I started to brush my teeth and brush my hair, which was a complete mess, and ran to my closet. I was excited. I wanted to start the ceremony right away. I wanted to learn my element, now.
I saw that the maids had left a dress for me. Big, poofy, yellow. Not that I minded the color yellow, but it was just... too yellow. I usually hated dresses anyways. They were too restrictive. But, that dress wasn't going to stop me now. I put it on and looked at myself in the mirror.
Blonde hair, that I had put up in a messy braid, warm complexion, yellow dress. Everything about me screamed "Light Mage!" But I didn't mind then. I was the princess of Prebia. Why wouldn't I look like a light mage?
"By the gods, this hair tie fell out." My hair reached to hips, but I liked to keep it up in a braid. Everyone had remarked me as almost identical to my mother. She also had very long hair and looked very much like a light mage.
"Finally, you stayed put." I check myself in the mirror one last time and rush to my parents' room. Causing a mess in my wake.
"Sorry about that!" Crash. "That's my bad!" Boom. "That looked expensive!"
Then I reached my parents' room.
"Mother! Father!" I plop onto their bed with a wide grin and start jumping up and down.
"I get to find out my element today!"
"By all of Etheria, calm down." My father mumbled.
"Darling, it is 4 A.M. Sleep." My mother sighed while I groaned.
"Element people! I get to find out my element! I want mine to be a sun mark like you guys." My mother looked at the mark on her hand. It was a radiant sun. She said that it looked like her mother's.
"Yes... we all want you to have a sun mark."
She looked distant. She only looked like that when she was thinking about her father. Who she never talked about. It always struck me as odd, but I didn't care. He was never in my life, died before I could meet him.
"Come on Sunrise, we're already awake, let's go set up the ceremony." My father slowly got out of bed and started to get ready.
"Ugh, do we have to, Flare?" My mother rolled over to look at him.
"Yes, we do, Mother!" Both of my parents laughed and got out of bed.
"Go eat breakfast, we'll be right there."
~~~
After I was done eating I ran to the ceremony hall.

"Is it ready yet?" My father looked around the gold room. The chandeliers were slightly swaying from side to side but that didn't take away from the majesty of the room. The ceiling was painted with all the stars in the sky. The sun was the big centerpiece, however. It looked so real like it could burn us up at any moment.

"Yes, everything is in place." I smile. I was finally going to have magic.

"Can the ceremony start now?" My mother smiled at me. She sighs.

"Yes."
~~~
I sat in the middle of 12 relics. The elements in the outer rim and the branches in the inner. My parents said some incantations but I didn't really listen. I was too excited, that's when I blacked out.
I woke up in a pitch-black room.
"My parents never said this would happen." I see the relics again. I start to walk to the relic representing the sun mark. But a sudden breeze whisks me back. At the same time, something else was propelling towards the relic. I turn back to see statues of my family. They were all golden. I look in front of me again and I see something I was not expecting.
"T-that's me." I didn't know what to think at the time. But I needed to know what I was trying to show myself. That sounds weird, really weird.
I push back against my family until the statues turn to golden dust. The statue of me was pushing me out of the circles of relics. I follow, maybe there would be something waiting for me. I didn't realize at the time, but another statue was also pushing me. A black-colored statue. It wore the face of someone I thought I would never have to worry about.
How wrong I was.
The second I reach the outside, my statue turned to dust. It left me alone. I keep walking, but every step I took, color would start to appear. Until the room looked like a beautiful rainbow.
I see another relic in the distance. I start running towards it.
"What is this?" I didn't know it at the time, but it was a yin yang symbol. "Maybe this is what my statue wanted me to find." I cautiously touched it. My curiosity got the best of me. That's when I woke up.
The room was empty, only the relics were there. Everyone had left.
I look down at my hand to see the same yin yang sign. I almost screamed. It looked so much like a moon to me. I didn't even know what it was.
I try reaching for the relics. But it wouldn't change. Nothing changed. That's when I noticed my hair. It was black and white. I started crying.
"N-no. P-please no. I pray to the gods, please." But they didn't listen. And I was all alone. Why must I be different? Why must I have to suffer?
What was I? What magic did I have?
Then my mother walked into the room, alone.
Her eyes widened.
"M-my father's mark."
And my whole world changed.
