Y/n POV
"Hey!" You run up to the group of girls from your department. "Where are you guys heading tonight?"
"We're going to a club," Jisoo, your manager's assistant, tells you.
"Mind if I tag along?"
Her brows furrow in confusion. "Don't you usually have plans on burning Friday?"
You shrug, a little pang flashing through your heart. "Not tonight." Jimin has a date. For the first time in weeks, you'll be alone on a Friday night.
Just when you think she'll turn you away, Jisoo tosses her arm around your shoulder. "No problem, girl. It'll be fun. We're just waiting for a couple other girls and then we'll go."
"A girl's night, I presume?" You give her a small smile.
"A girl's night indeed. I've been in need of one."
For a second, your insecurity takes over you. You wonder if she could see the disappointment on your face from Jimin being busy. Did she really want to invite you or did she just feel bad? You tried to be supportive of Jimin, to be excited for him, and it felt like you did a pretty good job. But if he got a girlfriend, what would happen? Did that mean you guys couldn't be friends anymore? That you couldn't hang out after work? You don't have many friends besides him, other than a few girls in your department, and they aren't people you hung out with outside of the break room. Jimin is your best friend. Would it all be over?
A high pitched gasp pulls you from your thoughts back to the events around you.
"Unnie! Are you coming with us?"
You turn and face Haerin, a younger girl and someone you would consider your closest friend at work. Your face breaks into an effortlessly wide smile. You'll have someone to talk to tonight!
"Yeah, I am."
"Awesome!" She loops her arm through yours, pulling you to the doors of the building. "This is gonna be so fun!"
Her excitement helps you loosen up. This will be fun, you tell yourself. Just relax and have fun.
.
You sit back down at the bar, shooting a wink at the guy you just danced with and a shot down your already burning throat. You're only a little tipsy, but you know you probably shouldn't drink much more. Jimin had warned you about it becoming a problem after your breakup with Chan-woo. You hadn't cared before but now you were starting to wonder.
Still, you wave to the bartender with a giggle and he refills your glass. This was the most fun you'd had in a while.
"Y/n unnie!' Haerin calls to you, waving you over to her and the others at her table. You walk, barely stumbling, over to your friend and coworkers.
"Y/n, won't your boyfriend be upset about you dancing with other guys?" Jisoo asks you over the music.
Boyfriend?
"Boyfriend? Chan-woo and I broke up weeks ago!"
"No, not Chan-woo!" Haerin says.
"The short, skinny guy from graphic design! He's friends with my boyfriend!" another girl, Eun-jae, shouts.
Your heart completely stops in your chest. What? "Do you mean Jimin?"
"Yeah, him! Won't he be mad?"
You swallow the shot, still full in your hand, hoping now to get drunk enough to forget about this tomorrow. "We...we aren't dating!" Your heart feels heavy when you say that. Why?
"What? You're kidding!" Eun-jae's drunken shouting has suddenly become too loud for your ears. Everything is a little too loud.
You shake your head. Your tongue is paralyzed and you can't bring yourself to speak anymore.
"Could've fooled me!" Haerin shouts. "All of your Instagram posts about him...I thought you guys were on dates!"
"I totally thought you were into him!" Eun-jae nearly screams.
Were you into him?
No. Never.
No? Never?
"I mean, he's not a bad guy..." That didn't come out right, you think to yourself. "He's a great guy. I guess I've just...never thought of him that way."
Jimin. Jimin was funny. Caring. Interesting. Fun to be around. He's good-looking, you can't deny that. He's Jimin. He's your friend. he's been with you through everything. He stayed even after how poorly you treated him when you were with Chan-woo. He's loyal. He's Jimin.
The girls around you all get up and dance, but you can't join. Instead you sit in their places, too busy with your thoughts and your now constant rounds of alcohol. Your thoughts of only Jimin. Your alcohol to get rid of the thoughts of Jimin. The alcohol only makes your thoughts more persistent.
Before you know it, you're stumbling, being shoved into a cab. You hear Haerin's voice, still sober, call out your address. She closes the door after telling you goodnight. You don't care to respond.
The next thing you register is the cab door opening in front of your apartment building. A pearly, crooked toothed, impossibly wide smile gets you and a cute giggle rings through the night.
"You're soo. Wasted."
Jimin's laugh echoes off the building and you smile at him. He hasn't been in this good of a mood in forever. You want to ask why but the words get stuck in your drunken haze. He pays the driver for you and lifts you out of the car, helping you walk very slowly up the stairs and into your apartment. He helps you lean against a wall as he takes your coat off for you. His dreamy smile never leaves his face. What's he so happy about? you wonder. He hangs your coat up on its usual hook and you smile at his attentiveness.
You lean against him like a crutch as he takes you down the hall into your room. He lays you down on your bed and removes your shoes. You had a dream like this once. You barely remember it.
Jimin pats you gently on the head and turns to leave. You mumble something even you can't understand and he just laughs at you. The sound of his laughter rings in the room like bells on the end of an angel's cloak.
Angel.
He's your angel.
He's been with you through so much.
Everything.
You look at him for the last moment tonight before disappears from the room, leaving you to sleep. It's in that moment, the last second his back is in your view, that you realize it.
You could do it.
You could love him.
Easily.
Park Jimin.
