This was the last day of TIS week before school started again and Adam texted Jay asking to go to the gym and play basketball. Jay loved playing with his brother but he never played on a team.
They got there around the same time as each other.. Adam brought the ball and they started shortly after. Adam wasn't the best but he knew how to play. They played a little one on one and Jay had made 3 pointers, half court, layups and everything. Adam really made nothing but layups. Adam defended but Jay jumped, planted his feet and then made the shot. Adam clapped his hands together and cheered loudly making Jay laugh.
"Who's the winner now??" Jay screamed making another shot.
"Alright, alright." Adam said as they took a seat on the bleachers.
"Man, you should join the team at school, you're natural and I'm sure coach would love having you there."
"Nah man I think I'm good, you heard Kelly man." Jay said standing up dribbling the ball.
"Screw Kelly, you got game brother." Adam said as Jay chest passed the ball.
"You think?"
"Man I know! You better use that talent for something!"
"I don't know." Jay said hesitating.
"Hey if you don't talk to coach I will." Adam said running out the gym doors.
"ADAM RUZEK!" Jay said running after him.
Adam got in his car and started to drive away and then Jay laughed hard.
Maybe being on the team would help him and what could Kelly do anyway. Adam was right, Jay knew how to play he should use it for something.
Monday.
Adam went into the locker room and knocked on coach's door.
"Coach?"
"The doors open ain't it?" He said reading his newspaper.
"So coach I have a friend that can play ball pretty well. His name is Jay and he is new. I think you should see how he plays, give him a shot on the team maybe?" Adam said nervously.
"And who are you to come in here and tell me who to put on my team?"
"You're right coach but he's really good. Just thought I could let you know." Adam said leaving the office and heading out of the locker room door.
He had a smile on his face and Jay saw him looking nervous. "Please tell me you didn't.
"Oh I did." Adam said walking to the next class he had.
What is wrong with him?
After school Jay went into the gym and got the basketballs out, he started to shoot from all different areas of the court then he saw the coach come in and he stopped putting the balls on the rack. He looked a little scared as to what he thought the coach would say.
"Sorry coach I just wanted to shoot around sometimes it helps me clear my thoughts." Jay said setting the rack in the closet.
"You Jay Halstead?"
"Y--yes sir?"
"You play ball?"
"A little. With my friends just to fool around?"
"You have talent Mr. Halstead."
"I do?"
"Yeah you do, listen I have an open spot on my varsity team if you want it, you can have it."
"Coach this isn't really my thing. I like playing basketball and fool around with it and I don't think I would fit in or do well on a team."
Coach chuckled starting to make his way out. "Practice is after school tommorow."
Coach walks out and screams "Shut the lights off when you're done!"
Jay chuckled and continued playing.
Maybe I will join the team...
But what about Kelly?
