A cool breeze from the wind caused you to shiver, and you sighed, looking down at the body of your brother once again. It had been about ten minutes since the others ran off, and it made you feel a bit regretful. What if you had been wrong and that really was your brother? How would you explain the whole ordeal to your parents?
With your head swirling with thoughts, you were too absorbed in them to notice the presence that joined you until the person shook your shoulder, making you jump and turn your attention towards them.
“[Name], you okay?”
“Wasurete!” you stood and hugged him tightly. “I KNEW that it wasn’t you!”
“What are you—oh…,” he let you go of the embrace and crouched down to inspect the body. “So this is what Tori said about me getting killed by you. I knew it wasn’t serious.”
“What do you mean?” you eyed him curiously.
“Well,” he stood, eyes still on the body,” Touya said that he had a vision where you’d kill me. I think he was talking about this exact thing. See, I left a little before you sealed the card. It took a while to get here because of the storm so I took a detour. Anyways, I felt something…evil…and that something is dark matter. It’s what the Clow Card absorbed. When you sealed it, it took shape of me to try and gain your trust. If successful, it’ll feed off of your heart’s energy and purity to gain stronger.”
“Was it created by Ryuushin?”
“Not a chance,” he snorted. “The idiot isn’t capable of this. Dark matter is a solely natural form, emerging from an unrested soul in the Farplane when a lot of darkness from people’s hearts is present. From there, it feeds off emotions until strong enough to take over something.”
“That’s…wow,” you shook your head in disbelief. “So what do we do with the body?”
“Leave it,” Wasurete shrugged, shoving hands into his pockets. “It’ll denigrate like the hybrids. The only reason why it has red blood instead of black is because it’s grown incredibly strong; meaning that you must’ve really surprised it or weakened it badly when you killed it.”
“Too bad the others thought I killed you,” you muttered.
“We should get home,” the ravenette removed a hand and slung it around your shoulder protectively. “I’ll explain don’t worry.”
“I owe you a lot,” you frowned, looking at the floor.
“Nah,” he chuckled. “We both match now see?” he pointed to his black eye; the black of it slightly faded. “Though I think if mom and dad saw us, I’d be in big trouble.”
“Why’s that?”
“You with a black eye? Hah! Dad would’ve killed me,” he muttered the last part unenthusiastically.
“I gotta question, Aniki,” you hummed, as he looked at you expectantly. “Why do the kudans seem so familiar? It’s like I’ve seen them before.”
“You really didn’t notice?” he chuckled. “I’m not sure if you did, but try to remember watching animes when you were—”
“Oh! Pokémon!” you snapped your fingers. “Now I know what Fai meant about some things being real in some places, but only myths or fiction in others.”
“That’s the same reaction I had when I figured it out,” he nodded. “There’s something about this place in general though… I feel like I know from somewhere—and it’s not just the whole Pokémon thing.”
The walk home felt like old times, and if not for the massive destruction around you, it would have been just another day in Hollow Bastion where you were walking home from the mall with Wasurete. Throughout the time, you and the ravenette conversed about the possibilities of the two traitors. Eventually, you both came to the conclusion that it would have been two of the many girls who had gotten quite well with Ryuushin when he first posed as Yunshiru. From the amount of time they had spent together, it was only reasonable that the two were exposed to him enough that he’s able to control them without their knowing.
