The rest of my morning with my parents was spent on catching up with each other. Although it was mostly me and my mum, my dad and I have never really had that great of a relationship but that's a story for another time. They are staying until tomorrow morning so I'll need to spend the rest of the day with them. I don't get to see them anymore, I'm on the other side of the world to them, I guess sometimes I miss my home and wonder what my life would be like if I had just went to a university in the UK. We have decided to go exploring, it's the first time my parents have visited America. We are currently going around the city, we parked their rented car a while ago and have been walking ever since. I couldn't think of anything we could do apart from visit my campus so exploring the city was the only thing we could do and it's good for me as well because I haven't been in the city that many times. Although I moved here just under a year ago, I spent most of my type around campus. Maybe next semester I'll start driving and get myself a small car so I can visit the city more often and my life would be much easier than relaying on other people to take me around or the bus which rarely runs.
"So hunny. Have you made a lot of friends?" My mum asks as we all take a seat on a park bench. We have been walking for an hour and it's time for a quick stop.
"I've got a few but just some close ones." I simply reply and I look at my dad to see him nodding his head. I guess he approves that I don't have that many friends. Back home I never really had many friends either and he somehow knew all about my friends, perhaps more than he knew about me, his own daughter.
"I've heard one of them in the background a few times when we used to skype." My mum adds in, probably meaning it as a dig - since I've not kept in touch as much as I should of. But honestly, I've not really had the time. I've been busy with school and getting to know my friends more and Kyle.
"Oh right. Yeah probably, anyway - mum I'm sorry that I haven't Skyped much lately." I decide to say, although I know that she wouldn't go on about it anymore.
"It's fine hunny. I get it."
"We get it." She adds and turns to look at my dad.
"You know it wouldn't hurt to let us know that your doing okay. At least your mother." My dad surprises us both.
"I've been busy, plus if I wasn't doing okay I would have phoned." I say and he shakes his head in disappointment. Of course the one thing he says to me - is another dig and I stand up for myself and all he can do is disapprove.
Not much is said after he said his piece and I said mine, although it was brief - it was enough for us all. No one spoke another word after that, my dad tends to have that affect on people - especially his own family (a.k.a me.)
...
It's now a few hours later and we have gone around campus a little more and now they have just dropped me off at my dorm so I can show them around, as soon as I open my dorm door - I find Rowan and Kyle sat on the bed talking. My parents behind me push me forward into the room.
"Uh hi guys." I say and my mum introduces herself, while my dad stays quite and just gives them a smile.
"Oh lovely to meet you both, I'm Rowan - Emerson's room mate." Rowan says as she gets up from the bed and gives my mum a hug.
My mums gaze then turns to Kyle, who hasn't said a word. "You must be Rowans boyfriend?" She asks and he shakes his head.
"Oh sorry, my name is Kyle and im actually Emerson's boyfriend." He says and my mouth immediately drops as all eyes go on me.
