"Mia, who is calling you?" Ashton asked impatiently. They were out driving through town looking for Vasile.
"My stupid sister, Carolin." She rolled her eyes. Ashton rolled her eyes.
"Throw the damn phone out the window we don't have time for her." She said.
"Eventually I'll have to go home. They won't stop searching for me." She replied.
"Well right now, we have to help Roman. The fun starts when Vasile is dead-"
"You mean, killing?" Mia corrected her. "I can't do it Ashton."
"You are my protégé, you'll kill eventually. I'm here to teach you to kill effectively. But I won't let you kill Vasile, he's older and smarter. All you have to do for now is think like me." Ashton stopped in front of a small cozy house. "Don't get kidnapped."
They both got out of the car and began walking towards the house. "You have to be ruthless." She smiled knocking on the door.
A tall slim red head answered the door. She smiled at the girls. "Hello, how may I help you?" She asked.
"I'm Ashton, and this is Mia. I'm here to talk to you. May we come in?" She asked with a friendly smile. The woman frowned.
"My husband isn't home-"
"Invite us in, that wasn't a suggestion." Ashton kept her smile on her face. The woman sighed.
"Come in." She said. Both girls entered looking around.
"Who is your husband?" Mia asked.
"Before you answer.." Ashton walked over to the woman and yanked off her pendant necklace. "Vasile must be your husband. He gave you a necklace that was charmed with a spell to fight compulsion. And he left you human." She looked around. There were pictures everywhere of the woman and some other man.
"Vasile loves me. He knows that I would rather live my eternity a different way. There is no threat in this town, there is no reason to become something other than human."
"You must not have heard of me darling." Ashton touched a picture frame. "I'm the devil in form of a woman. But enough of this," Ashton was in the woman's face in a mere second as she grabbed her by her neck and held her up in the air. "Tell me, what is stopping me from killing you right here?"
"Please, don't kill me. I don't know why Vasile wants to be here he hasn't told me-" The woman was grabbing at Ashton's hand trying to pry her hands off her throat.
"Lie harder." Ashton threw her body to the ground and stared at her. "What is your name? Who is this man in these pictures?" She asked baring her fangs.
"He's my real husband, Fell." The lady's eyes were wide as she gasped for air. "I am Julia. I'm a witch from Florida."
"Oh god, you really shouldn't have told her that." Mia shook her head as she took a seat. Julia looked in confusion as she glanced between Mia and Ashton.
"I'm not sorry for this, let this be a message to Vasile. He wants to be a smart ass I've outsmarted him." Ashton walked over to Julia and grabbed either sides of her face. She snapped her neck in seconds and let her body drop to the floor.
"Why do you hate witches again?" Mia asked. Ashton stood, turning towards her.
"They turned against my family once they found out about my brother becoming a vampire. And especially ever since I became a vampire they haven't been my best friends." She stared down at Julia's lifeless body.
"Why did they turn against your family because of your brother?"
"We were witches, when we were humans we protected our town. They blamed us for letting the vampires come into our home." Ashton shook her head. "Let's go, Vasile will know where to find us once he's found Julia."
"Don't you wonder who Michelangelo is, and why he saved your life?" Mia pressed on once they got back in the car.
"I remember the day he saved me. It was the worst day of my sickness. I was hot and unconscious most of the day. Enrica's soup sat on my dresser untouched. His footsteps were heavy on the wood of my bedroom floor." Ashton explained.
"He touched my face and I felt the cold of his touch, it was surprisingly comforting, despite the temperature. He sat on the bed and stared down at me. I couldn't really see his face. He whispered a prayer before leaning down to my neck. 'Be still my love, you will thank me soon. I'm so sorry that this will hurt you.' He whispered. I felt his fangs in my skin and the spread of his venom through my veins. It burned so bad, I'm sure you're familiar with the feeling. He kissed my forehead and left. I never knew his name until I read Roman Grigorescu's journal." Ashton began driving.
"It must be driving you crazy, not being able to find the man that saved your life. And to find out that no one wants to find him." Mia showed sympathy.
Ashton shrugged it off. "I don't deserve to get anything I want. I don't care that much. I just don't want anyone to hurt Roman."
"What makes you so fond of him? I never really found him as the dreamy type."
"He's the descendant of a great man." Ashton smiled solemnly. "Enough about this, we have to swing by the school to check on Roman."
