I was cooking for Asher. He sat at the counter watching me intensely. For the past couple days he was quiet and barely spoke. I think it was because he missed Ashton. To see him so torn up hurt me because I couldn't help him.
Everything Zaria said was true, we all pushed her away. I was never there for her I was so wrapped up in Asher that I forgot Ashton was the one who saved my life. Well not necessarily because i wasn't in any danger but I hated Carolin's guts.
I dumped the noodles into the steaming hot water and sealed the pot with its matching lid. Asher loved any kind of noodles, he'd eat a dozen plates. I don't know how he can keep food down it does nothing for him. No nutrient value or whatever that shit is called. I stirred the noodles until they were ready and I dumped them in the Alfredo sauce.
"Something smells good." I looked up to see where his voice came from. He leaned against the doorframe. Lately he had been allowing himself to look more sick. He'd gotten pale and his hair was an outgrown mess. I never understood the science of vampirism. They aged only enough for their age but they were frozen in time. Or was it just the Anghelescu's? They were a mix of witch and vampire maybe it could be them.
I actually admired them, they were a gorgeous family. Vivian was such a beautiful woman, her daughters equally beautiful. Not to mention how hot her son's were. Asher had a danger to his looks, which made him irresistible.
"It's your dinner." I said with a chuckle. He smiled at me weakly.
"I really appreciate this." He walked over behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist, resting his face in the crook of my neck. I smiled, loving how affectionate he was being.
"Of course." I brought his hand to my lips and kissed it. He smiled in my skin, placing a kiss there.
Once Asher ate we were lounging on the couch in the den watching a movie. He pulled out an envelope with his name scribed on it with perfect loops and lines. "What's that?" I ask.
He sighed before answering. But not because I asked, whatever the thing was it affected him bad. "A letter my mother wrote before she died. Roman gave it to me." His voice was low, I could see the grief on his face.
"Open it." I encouraged. He sighed again, his hands beginning to shake.
"You read it to me." He handed it to me. Hesitating slightly I reached for it, keeping my eyes on him.
I opened it carefully, trying not to rip it paper.
My son Asher,
It has been years since we've bonded. I'm so sorry to have noticed this before my death. I love you so much Asher. You are brave and comfortable with your lifestyle no matter what. Ashton looks up to you, she adores you. Ever since you two have been born you were inseparable. Take care of Ashton because you can take care of her in ways that Elijah and Zaria cannot. And she is quite rebellious to them.
You have a destiny Asher. You and your siblings are not regular vampires. Since you have been born witches, your blood is part witch. I haven't been able to explore this matter in depth but Roman's family knows. The Grigorescu's have been helping us for years keeping notes on your developments. They are beings called Vanators. Hunters, of all magic beings. I've been keeping up with the studies but when Roman's father died we lost information and that is why I moved the family here.
You have to find out how to survive and what you are. And please know that I will always be with you. I love you all dearly.
V.A.
I looked up at Asher, his expression was blank. And I couldn't read his mind. "I just want to rip that stupid witch's head off." He muttered. "I'm going over to Roman's." He stood up so fast.
"Asher it's twelve at night!" I shouted following after him. He kept going towards the front door.
"It's a school night! What will his sister say?" I kept yelling. I had to pick up my speed because he was super fast. We drove to Roman's huge house, which I've been to only a few times. Just as suspected, Natalie's car was parked out front. We got out and walked to the front door.
This was amazing I've never seen Asher so focused, he was silent. He rang the door bell and waited patiently. Natalie answered, still dressed in her nurse uniform. All of her hair piled on top of her head in a messy bun. She was beautiful, and nice. "Hey Mia, who's this?" She smiled. "You look like somebody i know." She pointed to Asher.
"This is Ashton's twin brother, Asher."
"Hello Ms.Grigorescu, I'm Asher." Asher smiled holding out his hand. I giggled because Adrianna was not the kind of adult to shake hands.
"Oh please, you don't have to shake my hand and Ms.Grigorescu is my mother I'm Adrianna." She leaned forward and brought him into a hug. "So I'm assuming you guys are here to see Roman, little brat." She rolled her eyes stepping to the side. We entered the house, looking around at everything. There were paintings of all his family members and even some photographs.
We walked to what I thought was their den. Roman was sprawled out on the couch playing the game system. There was some girl at the far end of the couch reading.
There was a picture of Ashton on the ground with the frame broken. I reached down and picked it up. "Why the hell did you break this?" Adrianna asked taking the frame from me. Roman jumped and paused the game, glancing at us.
"I-I didn't mean to! I was just mad and-" Adrianna interrupted him.
"You're gonna have to control yourself. She'll come back." She pressed on. "You have company, I'm going to my room." And with that she left. Roman stood up and led us to another room.
"Who is that girl?" I asked. Roman say down at the table.
"Madison. So what are you two doing here at this hour? I'm surprised Adrianna didn't say anything about it." He said.
"I read the letter my mother sent me. And it led me here. Your family has been helping us for years. The answers to what we truly are, are here in your house."
"You must want the diaries. They are at our old home." Roman answered. "I can take you there if you want. But I don't think my sister will let me leave."
"You're coming with us." Asher said with the most serene face I've ever seen. He looked pretty convincing. I made a face at Roman so he would know not to argue.
