Later on that night Jackie and Jack are sitting at the dinner table. Jack notices she has been very quiet since they sat down and began to eat dinner. He watches her as she picks at her food. He knows she had her meeting with her mother earlier today. She has yet to tell him how the meeting went and the result of said meeting.
"Hey kid, are you ok over there?" he asks.
Jackie looks up and looks at him. "Yes, I'm fine," she lies. She still feels uneasy about her and her mother's earlier conversation.
In truth, she wouldn't keep her mother away from her future grandchildren. What her mother did cut deep and she doesn't know if their relationship will ever be the same. She doesn't want Jack to feel like he's at fault for the rift in their relationship.
"Jackie, what's wrong?"
"I told you, sweetheart nothing is wrong," Jackie replies.
Jack looks at her and he can tell something isn't right, but he decides not to press the issue.
"How was your day?" he asks.
"It was good, got a lot of work done today. How was yours?"
"Good, the school is coming along great. The foreman told me today it should be completed ahead of schedule."
"That's wonderful! I know a lot of people are excited about enrolling their children. Do you plan on opening more schools?"
"That's the plan, of course, the path may be a little different," Jack says getting up from the table. He walks over to Jackie and gets down on one knee. Taking her hand and looking into her eyes he begins.
"Ever since the day I first laid eyes on you, I knew you were special. Once I had the honor of getting to know you, I fell in love with the beautiful, intelligent, kind woman you are. I know I don't have the title of an Earl, Duke, or even a Prince. I know I can spend the rest of my life making you the happiest woman on this earth. So Jacqueline Bouvier, will you marry me?"
So stunned by what is happening in front of her she is rendered speechless. She didn't expect Jack to propose so soon.
She knows deep down inside how much she loves Jack and knows no one else could ever do. She smiles and shakes her head. "Yes, yes, yes Jack I'll be your wife," Jackie exclaims.
Jack opens the ring box to reveal a beautiful ten-carat diamond and emerald gold ring. Taking the ring from the box he slides it onto her finger, a perfect fit. Getting up off of his knee he pulls Jackie into his arms and they engage in a passionate kiss.
"I love you, Jackie," Jack says before brushing his lips against Jackie's.
"I love you too Jack," she replies smiling. She can't believe it she's finally getting married to the man of her dreams.
