Fiona's P.O.V
Next thing I know is I'm running. I quickly dried off the rest of my calves with one swift swipe of my towel. I stand up and try to recover from having my legs stick together. I run crookedly, but at this point, I have no choice. I knew those guys on the dock saw me... Or my fin at least. I have to loose them. They were behind me and if they caught me.....
I shook my head and kept running.
I then heard music. I glanced up and saw a bridge from the dock leading up to the lakeside restaurant. I made the turn and sprinted up the wooden bridge and got lost in the crowd. I sighed in relief when I didn't see the men anywhere. I laughed. Boy mom would have a fit is she knew I was swimming by the dock. I knew better but... Me not swimming is like a bird with a broken wing. It's just not right. After all, I am a mer-
I then crashed into a boy holding a tray of food. The plates went flying through the air and I heard smashing. Greaaaaat. Could I go anywhere without embarrassing myself?? I then noticed the cup filled with water flying towards my legs. I gasped and rolled off to the side, letting it splash onto the grass.
"I am so sorry... Here, let me help you," I laughed sorta nervously, reaching for a plate that didn't break.
"Haven't you done enough?" The boy with brown hair snapped at me, scooping up all the food and grumbling under his breath.
"Excuse me? It was an accident and I'm offering to help," I retorted.
"Yeah. Well you've 'helped' enough," the boy stood up after gathering all the things on his tray. He glared at me with his brown eyes and stomped off.
Rude.
I then saw the sun and I immediately knew I was late to get home. I sprinted away from the outdoor restaurant and I ran all the way down the street to my house.
I shut the door quietly behind me, hoping not to make much noise. My mom would totally kill me if she knew that I went swimmi-
"There you are," I heard someone snap at me, interrupting my thoughts. I turned around slowly.
"Mom! Oh. Uh. Hi!" I replied nervously, fiddling with my shirt.
"Have you been swimming...?" My mom raised an eyebrow when she saw my slightly damp red hair.
"Uuuuuhhhhhhhhh....... No...?" I nervously replied, my eyes darted around the room.
"You have, haven't you? Ugh! Fiona Collins! What can I ever do to get you to stay away from water?! You know it's dangerous for you and for me. It is how your father died...." She said, seeing through my lie.
"I know...." I muttered, looking down.
"Look, I know you want to get that extra practice in because we are going to join the pod in a couple of months, but you need to at least swim in the early morning or away from the dock. It's just not safe," mom explained, her gaze at me softened.
I nodded.
"Okay. Now off to bed for you. I think you've gotten yourself into enough trouble for today," mom said, raising an eyebrow at me and chuckling.
I colored slightly, remembering my run in with that boy earlier.
How embarrassing THAT was....
I then followed my mom's orders and I trotted up the stairs and into my bedroom for a much needed sleep.
