"Sorry I ran out on you earlier," Fiona apologized, picking up a slightly damp towel and starting to rub it against one of the tables in the empty restaurant.

"Well don't do it again, or you're fired!" I teased, glaring at her.

"Who said I had a job here?" She demanded, instantly putting the towel down.

"Well someone has to pay for that damage you did," I said. She colored slightly and I burst out laughing.

"Oh shut up. I'm sure with your amazing agility you could've avoided me," she retorted, moving to the next table.

"I'm just joking. You don't have to work if you don't want too," I honestly said.

"Great!" She exclaimed, dropping her towel and striding for the door.

"Hey! But I could really use your help...?" I pleaded, pursing my bottom lip out and batting my eye lashes.

"Ugh fiiiiine!" She groaned, rolling her ice blue eyes and trudging back to the table.
I smiled in triumph.

We ended up cleaning all of the restaurant tables, mopping the floors, changing the outside string light bulbs, and I washed some dishes. She said she would just watch. Huh. Weird.

By the end of the day, we were in a laughing fit, drinking some Dr. Peppers. We had talked the entire day, sharing funny life stories and talking about TV shows and hobbies.

"She seriously said that to you?!" Fiona laughed after sipping some of the cherry soda.

"I'm serious!" I laughed along with her. I looked at the sunset and down at my iPhone. I'd have to be home soon. Fiona shifted uncomfortably in her seat.

"Do you need to be home?" I asked her, looking at the sun.

"Yeah.." She announced, standing up. "It was really nice meeting you, Diner boy," she shook my hand and smiled.

"You too, clumsy," I shook back, smirking. Fiona glared at me and turned on her heel, walking to the bike rack. I looked at the darkening sky and followed her.

"I could give you a ride if you want," I offered kindly.

"YEAAAH sure I will after your amazing golf cart driving skills got you a summer job," she laughed at me, unlocking her bike and wheeling it out of the parking lot.

"Seriously. Do you want to get hit by a car?" I called out to her.

"Does the car want to get hit by you?" She called back, pedaling away.

I shook my head and rubbed my neck, instantly feeling tired. I started up the golf cart and I then drove down the harbor road down to my house by the lake, chuckling to myself about Fiona's humorous ways and stories.
It was nice to actually laugh at work today. Ever since the summer started as I wrecked the golf cart, my parents have been pretty ticked at me.
I got grounded of course until I paid off the money I owed, so having a friend that hung around my job would be pretty nice.

A friend... That's exactly what I needed at this point.
