Fiona's P.O.V

I pedaled as fast as I possibly could away from the restaurant.

Of course I felt bad leaving Alex the diner boy, but I mean, I was about to grow a tail in front of him! What was I going to do?!

I urged my human legs to go faster when I saw splotches of deep purple scales appear all over my legs. I gasped when my thighs started to tingle.

More scales started to appear.

My feet started to grow out.

My knees were like magnets now, trying to get pulled together.

Scales. Almost all over my legs now.

Crap crap crap crap.

I swerved on the road and pulled into the harbor. I had no time left.

I pedaled as fast as I could with my deformed legs. If I didn't get in water fast, the whole world would find a mermaid attempting to ride a bike. I panicked and jumped off of my bike, tumbling down into the grass by the lake. My thighs joined together. And now my calves were close as well. I rolled into the lake with a splash. I know I was close to humans, but the second I felt my full tail in the water, I felt free and at home. I dove down swimming under the dock out of sight. I gazed out to the open lake, deep in thought. The pod was out there, waiting for my mom and I to join them. The only reason she left is because my dad was killed by a human with a large boat. I don't know the whole story... I was little at the time.

I sighed and ducked back under the surface again, swimming through the murky lake waters.

Getting out of water was always a challenge. It looks so simple... But it isn't.

Trust me.

I lugged my heavy tail out of the water and rolled into the scraggly tree line by the lake. I checked the harbor once more and got to work.

I had been a mermaid on land all my life, so I had come prepared all the time. I reached into the thick branches of the trees and pulled out the old towel I had stored there, just in case. I quickly started to rub my tail with the towel, grunting in frustration when the scales started to slowly fade. Why did this have to take so freaking long? After a good 10 minutes of drying my tail, it was gone completely. I sighed in relief and pushed my way through the tree branches. I walked along the side of the lake, finding the spot where I abandoned my bike by the lake edge. I picked it up and got on the seat, ready to pedal back home.

"Hey! Fiona!" Someone called down the hill at the Lakeside Tavern.

I looked up to see Alex the diner boy.

"Alex? Uh, hi?" I called back.

"Get back up here! You've got tables to clean!" He shouted down at me, waving the towel above his head of brown shaggy hair.

I groaned teasingly, and made my way up the hill to the restaurant.

Sorry if it was short.

More on the way!
