Eleven- If only it wasn't too late...

Alex's P.O.V
"Alex! What did I tell you to do with these dishes?!" The manager boomed at me.

"Uh, yes sir.." I stuttered, nodding.

"What's gotten into you today?" He asked.

"Uh... Sorry... Just distracted,"
I replied, shaking my head.

"Anything you want to talk about?" He pressed, leaning over the counter.

"No." I snapped back, striding back to the kitchen.

The warm water and soap ran over my hands as I scrubbed all the bowls and plates clean.
My mind wandered back to the other day....
Her jumping in....
The.... The.... Tail....
I couldn't believe it... She... I...
I rolled my eyes to clear my thoughts, but to no avail.
My mind was hazy as I recalled the memories.

Why hadn't she told me before?
Did she not trust Me?
She told me she liked me and everything... But... I... It was then when a plate slipped out of my hands and smashed onto the floor.
"Alright alright. That's enough. Take the rest of the day off to clear your head." The manager scowled at me, snatching up the sponge I was using.

I walked out of the restaurant into the pouring rain and I hurried over to my soaking wet golfcart.
I started the engine and looked down at my phone. I then peeled my eyes away and backed the cart up.

She wouldn't text me.
Not now, at least.
I mean... I...
I then stopped abruptly at the stop sign.
I was going to crash again if I didn't regain my focus.
I sighed and kept an eye on the road until I pulled the cart into the golfcart garage by the marina. I would walk from here.
I shuffled slowly through the puddles of rain and mud, kicking stones as I walked.

I then kicked a stone and it rolled off into the dark lake.
My eyes stared at the lake for a minute... And it reminded me of her...
Fiona...
Her red hair... Her blue eyes.... Her loudness, her bold personality, tail and all...
She was perfect pretty much...
And I... I...

Oh god!

I slipped in the mud by the sudden spark of realization.
I pushed her away!

What have I done?!

And now she probably hated me...
I... I had to fix this...
If only it wasn't too late...
Determination shattered my doubt and I scrambled up from the puddle I had fallen in and I broke into a run.

The rain stung my eyes as I sprinted down the marina parking lot and through the dirt and gravel short cut through the small scraggly woods.
Mud started to cake in my shoes and made a gross squishing noise with each step.

I jumped over logs and ducked under low branches. It was then when I saw the brick house in the distance. A sigh escaped my lips as I sprinted up to the porch.
I put my hand into a fist and was ready to knock on the door.....
But something stopped me.
What if she wouldn't forgive me?
What if she was afraid I told her secret?
What if.. She hated me?
No Alex...
I told myself.
You've gotta be brave now.
I sucked in a breath and knocked on the door.
