Fiona's P.O.V
Knock. Knock. Knock.
I was too upset to even move from my bed. I laid there, listening to the heavy pit pat of rain and I pulled up the covers around me.
I heard my mom's footsteps pass my door and down to the front door. It swung open and I could hear chatter."Fiona! Someone is here for you!"
She called up the stairs.I sighed, and pulled my hair up into a messy bun, pulled on some yoga pants, a grey sweatshirt, and my grey slippers. I padded down the stairs groggily, and I made it to the front door.
My jaw dropped.
Alex was standing on my porch, soaking wet and covered in mud and leaves from outside.
I turned my head away to hide the sudden rush of tears about to spill out of my eyes. Why was he here?!
Why did mom have to let him in?!
"Hi..." He said breathlessly.
Mom left the room, leaving me in the awkward situation.
"Uhhm.... Hi....." I said back quietly.
Mom soon came back with a towel and a plastic bag for his shoes."Here take this," she offered.
He dried off his hair, leaving it in an attractive messy way.I had to turn away to avoid him seeing me blush.
Mom left again.
Traitor.
"I... I need to talk to you..." Alex began, looking down.
I nodded once, and we were now sitting at the table across from one another.
We sat there in silence for a second, just avoiding eye contact.
He was the one to break the silence."I didn't spill your secret," is all he said.
"Thanks," I replied, picking at my nail.
"Fiona.... Listen.. I..." He started.
"You what, Alex?" I snapped my head up.
"I screwed up.... And I... Still really like you..." He said timidly.
This time I blushed. I felt my face heat up and I avoided eye contact.
"Fiona... Say something... Anything," Alex plead.
"How can I be so sure you Like me? You practically shattered my heart just the other day. You didn't accept me for what I am and... You just... Ran away...." My lip started to tremble.
"Fiona.... I.... I just wasn't expecting something like that. It's not every day a human grows a tail, you know?" Alex half smiled at me, making my insides churn every time he smiled.
I chucked at that because I knew he was right, I just didn't want to admit that.
"I guess.... But... How can I be so sure that you accept me for what I am now?" I asked, looking into his eyes.
"Because me running through the woods in a storm wasn't enough? Fiona, of course I accept you for what you are. In fact.... I think it makes you even more unique....
It just adds another beautiful quality to the long list of qualities you have," he explained, reaching across the table and putting his hand over mine.I bit my lip and smiled.
"Well? Can we... Start this thing over....?" Alex asked nervously.
I interlocked our fingers.
"Alright, Diner Boy," And I smiled for the first time in three days.
