Alex's P.O.V

I couldn't believe it....

Forever?

Like... Forever forever?

This couldn't be happening....

Why did she have to go?

I love her so much and now I have to let her go and....
Ugh....

I groggily got out of bed from a rough night's sleep and I stretched.

I got some breakfast and I then walked outside for my shift today.
I started up the cart and I realized that it was 8:42.

I WAS LATE!

I sped off to the tavern and froze when I got into the restaurant.
Fiona was wiping down the table and she looked up at me with her blue eyes. She dropped the towel and gave me a hug.

"Hey?" I said breathlessly, confused.

"I thought that I could do your shift for you.... I actually got up early for once and you weren't here so I offered.." She replied.

"Thanks for the offer but, I'll take it from here," I said, getting upset about her leaving again.

"I'm already done," she said.
"Wanna hang out?"
***********
We left the tavern and about an hour later we were walking around by the gift shops surrounding the lake.

I grabbed her hand and we intertwined our fingers.

Ah... Bliss.

If only I could keep her for longer.

I sighed sadly and she looked concerned.

"Sorry... I just don't want you to go," I admitted, hanging my head.

She squeezed my hand.

"I want to stay with you... But if I stay..." She began, "I could risk losing my tail and I would eventually go insane from not being in proper lake water..." She explained, not making eye contact.

"Oh... I didn't know that," I said at last.

"Yeah.... It's just another perk of being a mermaid," she sighed, sitting down in the grass.

I sat down beside her.

"I just wish I was a normal human for you...." She admitted, dropping her head onto my shoulder.

"You don't have to be normal for me," I replied, tilting her chin up.

"Yes I do. It's not fair that I have to leave you," she stubbornly said.

"But, Fiona, it's where you belong... And I can't keep you from that," I reasoned, looking deep into her eyes.
She turned away from me and gazed out at the lake and we just stared at it for awhile.

I then heard Fiona's phone buzz.

"Argh. I need to go.... Bye Alex..."
She sadly said a goodbye.

"Bye Fiona," I simply said back, holding back my sadness.

Fiona's face then lit up.
She leaned down and whispered in my ear.

"Meet me here tonight. Bring a swimsuit,"

I looked at her skeptically, but she just winked, turned on her heel and ran off.

I shook my head.

Strange, but I love her anyway.

I thought to myself.
