As we approached the front door I could feel the excitement radiating from the two boys beside me. I didn't understand how someone could possibly be excited to be walking into a deadly situation. If I had a dime for every time I walked into a supposed demon possessed house with a smile on my face, I wouldn't even have a dime.

"Can you guys at least act serious? We don't want this household to think we're some wannabes that don't know what we're doing," I muttered.
"Oooh than if we do good can we get a cool patch like yours?" V asked pointing at my chest.
I looked down at my shirt, realizing what they were talking about. The patch was a brown cross with the words 'paranormal clairvoyant' on top of it, covering the cross partially. Above the cross there were two ribbons, and below the cross it said  'certified by the Vatican.' Every shirt, vest, or jacket that I wore had to have this patch. It was one of the few things the Vatican forced me to do in order to keep my funding and certification. I think it was mostly done to provide credibility to us when we did cases. That way people knew they were sending out church certified paranormal investigators, rather than some random people with a camera and a infrared light.

"You can get one, but only after you do a certain number of cases," I said, hoping that would give them gumption to work hard on this case.
"Ooooh how many cases have you worked than?" Jhope asked.
"After 100 successful cases, you get the patch itself which will say whatever your specific profession is in the church system, meaning yours will say demonologist. Every 100 cases you do, you get a new ribbon on top of the cross. I have the patch and two ribbons, so that means I've done over 300 cases. If you do this one without failing or dying, you'll only have 99 cases to go," I smiled through gritted teeth.
They both looked at each other and nodded excitedly.
"Now, if we're done discussing things that don't matter, can we focus?" I raised an eyebrow.
They both nodded as I did three quiet knocks on the front door.

A young women answered the door, maybe in her early 30s.
"Oh! Are you the exorcists?" She asked.
I could see out of the corner of my eyes the two boys nodding, but I reached my arm out to stop them. I put my fingers to my lips and whispered, "Please do not use that term ma'am. We are only here to investigate the case, not to do what you just said."
Her face fell before she shrugged, "well something is better than nothing."
She opened the door and waved us inside.

As soon as I stepped in, I wanted to step out. I looked out of the corner of my eye, right around the staircase I saw a silhouette but before I could fully take a look V spoke up and it disappeared out of sight.
"So you're having demon problems huh?" V asked.
I rolled my eyes, "Just in advance miss Han, these two are only trainees. I'm the only certified one here, so please tell me any of the information you know."
She nodded as I insisted we all grouped together to talk in the dining room.

She sat across the table from us alongside her two daughters. Before I knew it, Jhope was already grabbing equipment out of my bag.

"Hey stop that," I whispered hit his arm.
"Don't we need it to record stuff?"
"Normal demonologists do that. I don't. You're with me, which means you do what I say. Keep the equipment in the bag."
He nodded and set the bar back down.
I turned back to Ms. Han and gave her a smile,
"Now, when did weird things start happening?"

She thought to herself for a few moments. "The day after we moved in here. Doors were creaking, lights were flicking on and off. It started off really light so I thought that was just some quirks of the house."
I got my notebook out and began writing this down.
"Okay... than what made you change your mind?" I asked.
"Tell them sweetie," Ms. Han said pointing to her daughter Nayeon, a young teenager.
"Uhm, so a few weeks ago me and my sister Seungyeon were sleeping in our room together. We each have a bed on either side of the room and they're at least 10 feet apart. During the night my feet kept getting pulled by a hand. I thought it was Seungyeon playing a joke but when I looked over she was fast asleep. All of a sudden I was roughly grabbed by my ankle and pulled out of my bed. Not completely, but enough to have to scramble to not hit the floor. I screamed and that's when my sister woke up."

"Okay.... Seungyeon did you see anything?" I turned to her.
She nodded her head, "I thought Nayeon was just seeing things. But when I looked out of the corner of my eye I saw this figure. His eyes were glowing red, and I pointed to it to see if Nayeon could see it too. But she couldn't. So she went over there to look. She was standing right in front of him but she couldn't see him, it was the oddest thing."
"And then the door slammed shut!" Nayeon interrupted.

"Was this your only encounter with an actual being?" I asked, scribbling my notes as I looked back at the three of them.
Ms. Han shook her head.
"I didn't believe them when they told me. B-but one day I was putting Nayeon's clothes away in her closet. One moment the closet's empty, the second I'm staring at a man with glowing red eyes, and a rope tied around his neck."
"He was hanging?" I asked.
"No.... just standing there. It was at that very moment I grabbed the kids and left the house."
"If you left, why did you come back?" V spoke up.

Ms. Han looked at V, obviously a bit offended at the question, before she answered.
"I didn't have the money to afford anymore days at a hotel. That's why I called the church, and they said they'd send a message over to that big fancy church you work for to get me some help," she glanced at the three of us, trying to read our expressions.

"Maybe we should get you all out of here for a few nights while we do our investigating?" Jhope said. I smiled at Ms. Han as I tapped Jhope on the shoulder, "can we speak for a moment?"
He nodded and I gestured for V to follow me as well as we walked into the living room for a private conversation.

"Did we do something wrong again?" Jhope asked annoyed.
I shook my head, "No, but we can't let them leave this house."
"Wouldn't that be safest though?" V questioned.
"Don't they teach you anything in these demonologist classes? Listen boys, here's some important information about demons so take note. Whatever you do, you SHOULD NOT take a family out of a demon infested house."
"Why though?" V asked, laughing a bit at the obscurity of my words.

"Because V, by the time a family member has actually seen the demon itself, it has already attached itself to that family. Now that it's attached, it devours any fear and anguish the family feels.
If there are multiple demons here like I believe, then they already have to share the energy between them, which they're probably not too happy about. Taking away a demon's attached family is similar to taking away a dog's bone. Even if you take it away, that dog will chase after it. Once it gets it back, it's not going to be happy you took it in the first place. And you know what you get as a result of that? A terrible bite. Except in this case, a dog's bite is the equivalent of the demons in this house ripping you to pieces. Do you want that?" I folded my arms and looked at them both sternly.
They both shook their heads with small frowns on their faces.
"Good. Staying here is the safest thing we can do right now," I said, dismissing them for the moment as I returned to the dining room to finish the conversation with Ms. Han.

"I'm going to have you and your daughters sleep down here in the living room together. It's not safe for you to leave, but you will be better protected in numbers. Me and my trainees will go upstairs and try to figure out what's going on okay?" I smiled.
They all nodded in understanding as they grabbed the supplies needed to make their beds in the living room.

"Okay boys lets go," I motioned for the two to follow me upstairs. Excited for action, they grabbed their duffel bags and headed up with me to see what this house had in store for us.
