┏━━━━━━ Kayla's pov ━━━━━━┓
I was in my cell, wiping away the blood on the walls needing it to feel more like a room than a prison. Daryl was outside parking the cars and repairing the fences to make sure nothing happened. Hell, everyone was determined to make this place a home. The blood was off and was now on the rag, tossing it out the door and started sweeping the floor.
Today was a hot day. Sweat dripped from my forehead, and I wipe it off in annoyance. It was one of those days where you wanted to wear shorts, but we couldn't. It wasn't like back in the day. One scratch and you were done for. I went downstairs to see Lori and Beth bring crutches for Hershel.
" All right." I said, walking into the cell and watching Hershel slowly get up." Just take your time. If you can handle anything else, you can handle this."
" Daddy, don't push yourself." Beth worried with her arms around her father's arms.
Hershel laughed at what we all were saying and pulled himself to his one foot." What else am I going to do ?" He asked and looked up to me." Can't stand looking up at the bottom of that bunk anymore."
I smiled, watching Hershel place the crutches underneath his arms and carefully wobble a bit. He tried to take one step, but disorderly was falling back. I moved forward, ready to catch him, but he caught himself and took more steps forward." Look at you." I admired." You're practically running."
" You know, I think I'm pretty steady," Hershel said, smiling at the success he had done.
Lori watched every step he made with her arms ready just in case." Want to take a rest ?"
" Rest ?" Hershel asked, laughing at the question and stood a bit taller." Let's take a stroll."
Lori and I looked to each other before smiling and walking after him. For a person that just lost his foot, Hershel still had his cheery smile and perfect attitude. We got to a staircase and worried it would be the end to Hershel's journey, but the old man, one by one, took the stairs like nothing.
" You cleared all the bodies out ?" Hershel asked once at the bottom." It's starting to look like a place we could really live in."
" Yeah, we cleared in two or three days ago," I said, feeling bad that Hershel had to stay in bed for a week and not see the work we had done to the place.
"The last thing we need is you falling," Lori said, more worried about Hershel then herself.
Our small group walked towards the fences, getting a better look at our new home. Hershel was right; this place could be a home for us. It was heavily gated and had room for all of us entirely.
" Alright, Hershel !" Someone yelled, making us turn to see the guys by the fence.
" You're doing great, Daddy." Beth encouraged no longer having her arms out just in case he fell.
"Ready to race, Hershel ?" Carl asked, making the old man smile in his place.
" Give me another day." He chuckled." I'll take you both on."
We walked closer to the fence, and I saw Daryl more clearly. I saw the smile on his face and couldn't hide my very own smile. I was in love with that man, and no one could tell me otherwise. I saw him mouth out I love you and blushed with my smile widening more.
" I love you, too," I said, enjoying the peace, but it never lasts for too long.
" Walkers !" Carl cried out, and I turned, seeing almost a herd of walkers coming at us.
