┏━━━━━━ Kayla's pov ━━━━━━┓
I woke up and felt a pair of eyes on me, which wasn't scaring me anymore. Opening my eyes, I instantly saw Daryl on the floor, staring at me with his jacket on and his famous crossbow on his back.
" Hey," I said, sleepy still and pulled him to me.
He smiled and kissed me on the lips while I smiled. This man was going to be the death of me. I just knew it. I knew him for four months now, and I was hopelessly, dangerously, in love with him.
" Why up so early ?"
" Your Dad wants me to talk to Randell. Before I went, I just wanted to remember my reason for giving him hell." He admitted.
I looked up at him and nod, knowing that talked meant he had to hurt him." Why me ?" I asked, seeing he smiled, still staring at me.
" You're worth fighting for." He answered, leaning down to kiss me. I kissed him back before smiling up to the beautiful man." It's hard saying goodbye to you."
" But you always come back," I whispered, knowing he always will no matter what.
He nodded, placing a loose strand behind my ear before getting up and head to the barn. I could tell he was on edge already. Sitting up from the mattress, I peeked outside seeing everyone was sitting by the campfire making small talk and breakfast. Anything to get their mind off of the boy.
Taking the covers off, I changed into some new clothes heading out to join them on. Everyone was reacting different. Maggie and Glenn were smiling at each other talking about something. Carol was staring at the barn where Daryl and Randall were with a worried look on her face.
Lori was cooking focused on the food in the pan, but I wasn't planning on eating it given she already burned it. Shane and Dad stood off to the corner devising some kind of plan from what I could guess and on a little camping chair sat Carl looking at his hands.
" Hey, Carl."
" Did you know that Shane killed Otis to save you." Carl blurted out catching me off guard." I heard Dad tell Mom. They thought I was sleeping."
" Carl, you can't just blurt that shit out." I whispered leaning down to make sure no one heard us.
" But it's true. Just like how Daryl tried to hurt you back at the CDC. Shane said Daryl grabbed you. Kayla, he's dangerous. I heard what he did to you." Carl spoke next and I felt my body tense up at Shane's web of lies." He's a jackass."
" Woah, hey." I said noticing how worked up Carl was getting." I know you're upset, and confused and overall worried, but everything is going to be okay-"
" He's hurting you and Shane keeps telling me that Daryl's going to hurt you more."
My blood started to boil learning Shane's ways. If he couldn't get through me, he was going to try and get Carl to convince me. We grew up with Shane being kind-hearted and a great Uncle, but he was now our worst enemy. Someone who I hated no matter what he did for now on. He placed fear in my family.
" Shane's lying, okay. Daryl didn't hurt me in the CDC. Shane did. Listen, don't believe a word he tells you. Okay?"
" Okay." Carl whispered and I moved some hair from his face seeing he was still scared.
The people around us grew silent and I turned watching Daryl come back to camp. He smiled at me, but it soon went away as he got closer. I stood up, along with every member of our group, wondering what was next.
" Boy, there's got a gang, thirty men. They have heavy artillery, and they ain't looking to make friends. If they roll through here, our boys are dead, and our women, they're gonna-" He took a pause and looked at me. By his eyes, I knew it was terrible and questioned if I even wanted to know." They're gonna wish they were."
