┏━━━━━━ Kayla's Pov ━━━━━━┓
Merle Dixon was dead.
It was still in my head despite being two days ago. Daryl was still grieving over him, and I was there every step of the way. To Daryl, he was his brother, but to me, Merle was the one who saved my family and even me. I walked in my cell and saw Daryl with his hands on his head like he normally did. He hasn't been the same since, and I knew it would be a while till he was.
" Daryl," I said and wrapped my arms around his torso, feeling him flinch under my touch.
" I'm fine."
" No, you're not." I quickly said, moving some hair from his face. He flinched again under my touch, and I swallowed the guilt of Merle's death.
" I'm fine ." He said again, turned to hug me.
His embrace had been different since everything that happened between us. He held me close in his arms that I could feel all the muscles in his arms protect me. I heard him sniff and stroked his hair knowing he was crying.
" I just can't lose you too."
I didn't know what to say. Deep down, I knew today was a question if I would live or not. I knew the Governor was coming and he had his eye on Michonne and I. He could easily get one of us and Daryl could easily lose me after just getting me back.
" Come on." I said, looking up to his crystal blue eyes, ignoring his plead." We have a war to win."
Today was the day the prison and Woodbury go to war. I walked outside, watching everyone prepare for the battle up ahead. The idea was to make the prison seem abandoned so Woodbury would believe it, and we could ambush it. The only problem was knowing where the gunfire would come from. They had heavy gunfire, but so did we.
" Judy wanted to say bye-bye for a minute to her big sister," Beth said, walking over with the little baby.
I shouldn't even be calling her a baby since she grew so much. I could only imagine she was around one, maybe even two months now. I took her in my arms and kissed her chubby cheeks already seeing a resemblance to Lori.
" Bye, Jojo. Listen to Beth and Carl. I love you." I said and kissed her on the forehead.
She gave a toothless smile and grabbed my nose. I laughed and handed her back to Beth before walking over to Glenn.
" Did you do it yet?" I asked, bouncing a bit.
" Maggie," Glenn called, and the woman turned, showing me her hand.
" Oh, guys." I said, taking Maggie's hand and looking at her ring before hugging her." I'm so happy for you."
" Yep, we're hitched," Glenn said, causing me to laugh.
" Maggie Rhee sounds nice on you."
" Just like Kayla Dixon would sound nice on you." Mom said, passing by, but it caused me to tense.
Would I ever be a Dixon after today? I didn't even know if I would ever see my group again after today if the Governor did get me. I can't think about the future without seeing a certain death waiting for me. It was like I signed my own death certificate. Quickly, I blinked coming up with something to say.
" Well, Jennifer Grimes sounds really nice on you." I teased, seeing her face turn red also.
She laughed and bumped my shoulder playfully. I laughed and began to help her with the car taking Hershel, Carl, Judith, and Beth to the woods. They had to stay in the woods while fighting the Woodbury people since it would be too dangerous for them to be here with us fighting. I saw Carl walking to the car and smiled, but something was different.
