┏━━━━━━ Kayla's pov ━━━━━━┓
I walked wondrously down the road with Daryl by my side following Dad to nowhere. We walked for hours in silence to our own thoughts. We had no idea what to do next, and I knew some of us were worried we would go through another eight months of mindless walking around Atlanta for housing. I heard the snarls from my left and glanced over to the lone walker trudging through the mud.
" I got it," Michonne announced, reaching for her katana, but realized it was gone, so she used the butt of her gun.
" You and that Katana were a package deal. How else are you going to butter your toast now ?" I teased, seeing the smile on her face when she passed by. I noticed the sun setting and looked to Dad, seeing he thought the same thing.
He nodded his head," We'll come here for the night." He said, looking over to Mom by his side." Get a fire started. Daryl perhaps begins hunting. Get some rest so we could start back up by sunrise."
Daryl glanced down at me, and I smiled happily I had my man back." I'll bring back a nice owl."
" I rather you just bring yourself back." I teased, standing on my tippy toes and kissing his rosebud lips. His arms wrapped around my sides, and I had the sudden urge to pounce on him but released me.
" I love you, Mrs. Dixon." He teased, and I laughed watching him leave before I walked to my family, seeing Dad bend down to kiss Mom.
" Ewe. I always walk in on the most horrible times." I said, hearing they both laugh before Dad left with Carl somewhere.
" Sorry, sweetie." She giggled, taking out some fruit snacks for Judith. My eyes landed on my baby sister before realizing how good Mom was at taking care of her first baby.
" Mom ?" I called, seeing she smiled up at me, innocently," Dad told me about your family."
Mom's smiled dropped a bit, and she looked to the floor." He did, didn't he ?"
" I'm sorry that you had to do that for me. You didn't have to, but you did."
She scooted closer to me, caressing her hand over my cheek." I would do anything for you." She insisted." You're my daughter. My firstborn and flesh in blood. I would do anything for you. Just like I would do anything for Carl and Judith. Family does anything for family."
I smiled at her lovingly before giving her a big hug, glad that I had gotten my mother back. She could have died in the field, and that could have been the end of our story, but she was here still fighting to be with her family.
Getting up, I smiled at the ring on my finger and knew who I had to tell next. Glenn and Maggie sat on a log talking when Glenn looked up to me. I smiled, humming a song, and showed him my left hand while I passed hearing his gasp.
" No freakin way!" He cheered already on his feet and giving me the biggest hug.
" I'm hitched now!"
" What ?!" Maggie gasped grabbing my hand and staring at my ring." Oh my god ! Congrats!"
" When did he ask you?" Glenn questioned and I laughed at the memories.
" While the Governors men were shooting at us." I said hearing Maggie laugh and rolled her eyes.
" That man has horrible timing."
By nighttime, the group was asleep, with a fire roasting to warm them up. I slept on a blanket we managed to find with little Judith tightly in my arms. Close by, Mom and Carl were asleep, sharing a blanket as close as they could. I heard her gasp and watch Dad slowly slip into the blanket, kissing Mom's forehead.
