Chapter 15 When I Thought I Lost You

MapleStar stood on the large rock at Four Trees, scanning Thunderclan. Three new warriors. They looked...familiar...''Let the gathering begin!'' OakStar yowled. After Windclan and Shadowclan said their words, it was OakStar. ''We have three new warriors, PatchShade, LarchPelt, and PetalNose.'' MapleStar turned her head to the Thunderclan leader. ''Are those-'' MapleStar almost choked on her words. OakStar looked to her, ''Yes, your kits.'' He slightly smiled to her. She almost wanted to cry, she was so proud. PetalNose nudged her brother, ''Hey, LarchPelt, she looks familiar.'' ''What do you mean?'' LarchPelt mewed. ''She's MapleStar, right?'' PatchShade mewed. ''Yeah. You were named after a cat named MapleShade is what OakStar said. Doesn't she look familiar?'' PetalNose mewed, confused. ''Maybe we can ask her some questions at the end of the gathering-'' ''Like if she killed anyone!'' LarchPelt smiled, excited. ''-Or if she knows anything about a cat named MapleShade.'' PatchShade finished sternly. ''Oh- or that.'' LarchPelt shrugged. ''Riverclan is well.'' MapleStar nodded. Later, PetalNose, PatchShade, and LarchPelt came over to her. ''Hey! MapleStar! Do you know a cat named MapleShade?'' The three siblings sat. ''O-Oh...yes...the mate of BirchFace..?'' ''Yeah, our father!'' PetalNose smiled, ''You know her!? Frecklewish told us she died. Did she?'' LarchPelt mewed. ''She didn't, she's alive.'' MapleStar mewed. ''How do you know?'' PatchShade asked, with a slight growl. He has my attitude, perfect. MapleStar almost purred outload. ''Because I am her.'' MapleStar smiled. ''No, you aren't!'' PatchShade snapped. PatchClaw walked over, ''Oh yes she is!'' He smiled, purring. ''No..'' PatchShade narrowed his eyes. ''Would your leader tell you?'' OakStar mewed, walking over. ''She is your mother, kits, she is.'' He dipped his head to the leader. ''I have PatchClaw now, and you three have a brother named ShadowKit.'' MapleStar purred. PetalNose gasped and muzzled her. ''Mom!'' She yelped. ''Then- Why were we told she died?'' LarchPelt tilted his head in confusion. ''There was a Riverclan warrior named AppleDusk who wanted to become mates with me, I refused every time. He killed BirchFace knowing I was mates with him then lied saying he killed me. I bet he did so he could make me join Riverclan to become mates with him. I ran away, crying. I knew I had you three to raise but I couldn't just return.'' MapleStar mewed. ''Wait- You are mates with PatchClaw now???'' PatchShade almost snarled. ''I will admit, I miss your father dearly. There was something in PatchClaw that gave me a bit of BirchFace.'' MapleStar rose to her paws. ''The moon is lowering and the sun is rising, you guys will have to return home. I'll see you guys later.'' MapleStar licked each head of her kits. ''Bye mom!'' PetalNose mewed, happily. PatchShade felt something inside, warm and sweet. LarchPelt was bouncing off the walls, happy he got to know his mother. MapleStar walked with PatchClaw back to Riverclan to return to ShadowKit. ''Hi, ShadowKit!'' She smiled, nuzzling him. ''You'll be seeing someone special tomorrow.'' She purred.
