'Now that I've worn out
I've worn out the world
I'm on my knees in fascination
Looking through the night
And the moons never seen me before
But I'm reflecting light.'(**)
--Luke POV--
"Happy birthday!" My sister, Victoria, shouts down the phone, making me wince.
"Thanks Vic." I reply, shoving more cereal down. I'm going to be late if she keeps talking.
"You're coming to the party tomorrow right?" Her voice holds this warning, as if daring me to try get out of it.
"Yes, relax. I have to go now." I moan, cleaning up. She sighs.
"Fine! Please don't turn up stag. I love you!" She hangs up and I finally breathe a sigh of relief. I love her, but she is too overbearing at times.
I check for anymore texts and hit the home button, smiling at the new wallpaper. That stupid photo Ashley took of us at the beach. Riley looks so genuinely happy I couldn't not change it to my screensaver.
My phone buzzes with an unknown number and I roll my eyes. It's probably my dad. I decline it, going to get my backpack sorted.
I'm about to leave for school, which I am now late for, when the number rings again. That's the seventh time. I pick up.
"Hello?"
"Luke? Is that you?"
What the hell?
"Sam?"
"I need your help. Karina found out that I told Riley about her threatening me. I guess she told you."
"She only told me some of it." I lie, trying to spare him any embarrassment.
"Look, she's angry. Really angry at me and I think she's releasing the photos." He sounds so worried I can't help but feel bad for him.
"I'm really sorry dude. But what am I supposed to do?"
"There's nothing we can do for me. But she said that she was going after Riley herself. Apparently I had told her a bunch of stuff while drunk and she was going to use that."
"What?" I snap. What an idiot. "What the hell did you tell her?"
"Stuff about Riley's accident. I'm sorry-"
I hang up, rushing out the door. Knowing Karina, she'll twist that shit until it appears to be the worst story in the world.
--Riley POV--
The bell goes for lunch and I collect all my books and shove them in my bag. Ashley meets me at the doorway looking worried as we walk to my locker.
"Whats going on with you?" I ask, unlocking the locker and shoving some books in. I smile as I push Luke's present a little further back into it. I got him early tickets for his favourite band who are doing a reunion tour next year.
"Karina's on a wrath for someone apparently." She says. I frown as she isn't usually this worried.
"Okay, so? She's always on a warpath." I shrug as we enter the canteen. I glance over to where Karina usually sits and she's there, glaring at us.
