"We're not going to dinner?" I ask, glancing as the last of the restaurants in town pass us.
Luke texted me this afternoon asking if I'd want to go out tonight. I figured we needed to talk about what the hell happened so it was probably a good idea.
I've been dying to tell literally any of my friends about it but I've been keeping quiet until I figure out what Luke thinks.
"Well, we are. Unfortunately, my sister tricked me into coming to hers tonight. I'm sorry." He smiles at me.
"Hey, its fine. I like your family." I insist, turning towards him in the car. "First time a boys taken me to his sister's."
Luke just chuckles, speeding up as we leave town.
His sisters house is much smaller than his, a very box like shape. The driveway is huge and Luke frowns as he notices the amount of cars.
We walk towards the front door and Luke's eyes are still on the cars outside.
"I think that's-" Before he has a chance to tell me, the front door swings open to reveal Victoria. She smiles at us, but seems nervous.
"Hey!" She pulls him into a huge hug, holding on tightly. "Thanks for coming."
"Well, it's not exactly like I had a choice." He mutters. She ignores him, turning to me.
"Riley! It's so good to see you again." She hugs me too. I can practically feel the nerves radiating off her and wonder what the hell is going on. "Come in."
We follow her into the hallway where she takes our coats. I can hear voices from the kitchen and glance at Luke who is now frowning.
We're ushered in and everyone smiles at us as we enter. The three kids must be Victoria's kids and Luke's brother, Leo, is here too.
A much older man sits at the head of the table, sipping on his wine. He seems very refined and put together for such a small family gathering. When I look at Luke, his face is a little pale.
"Dad." He chokes out.
"My son. Do take a seat." The older man says and gestures towards the two chairs near him. We sit down and he immediately turns to me, offering a small smile. "I'm William, Luke's father."
"Riley." I shake his hand, offering a smile too. I know Luke doesn't think too highly of him, but I don't want to be rude.
Luke seems uncomfortable he's here. This could be interesting to say the least.
"So, how's school? And football?" Mr. Wild asks, biting into his lobster cheese scone thing. They're amazing but totally weird.
I look round the table noticing Victoria and Joe's three kids have disappeared. They're triplets- Jake, Jess and Jordan. The J's.
"Fine." Luke mutters and I chewed my food nervously, trying not to spit any crumbs or make a fool of myself in general.
Mr Wild sighs and turns to me, obviously thinking he was making too much effort with Luke.
I can see this man isn't bad, from the grief in his eyes to the bags below them. He buries his grief in work. I wanted to grab Luke and show him, with it being so visible under this lighting.
But I didn't.
"Riley, isn't it?" I nod. "Are you in many classes with Luke? Maybe you can give me an idea of his behavior." He attempts a small, awkward laugh.
