The next morning I was awoken by the doorbell going off. I got up made myself look somewhat decent, not knowing who would be here at 7:30 crazy-early-am. I opened the door, revealing someone I wasn't expecting "Genma? What are you doing here? I thought were going to spend your day off relaxing?" I asked still shocked that he was here.
"I am later, every Friday Gma Marcy and I have donuts together. I hope you like glaze," He informs me offering the box like a peace offering.
"Yeah, that's great actually." I said letting him in. We made our way to the kitchen. "She should be down in a few minutes. Do you want coffee or tea?" I asked.
"Tea." He responded simply.
I put the tea kettle on and started the coffee pot. "What kind of tea do you like?" I asked pulling out a box of mixed tea's I brought with me.
"Whoa! Gma Marcy has only given me regular tea. Has she been keeping these to herself?" he asked pretending to be betrayed. Since he knew Grandma doesn't drink tea.
"No," I gave a barely noticeable giggle. "I brought these with me." After looking through the box of about ten different flavors he settled on green tea while I picked myself a peach flavor. "Do you want honey?" I asked once the teas were done.
"Sure. I'll try it, Marcy never asked before," He told me. "She probably forgot she had it," we both laughed knowing it was the truth. "I heard that!" Grandma announced as she came into the kitchen. She had either forgotten to take her curlers or was too lazy to take them out because they were still laying in her hair not too messy though for sleeping with them in.
"Ali dear, did you start my coffee?" she asked taking a seat at the table.
"Yes," I answered setting down the cup I just took a sip from.
"You should try some sometime. I'm sure you'll like it," She said to me.
"I do like coffee.... just with creamer," she gave me a pouty face.
"I'd have to agree with her," Genma joined in.
"No, that just ruins it," she said as if she was getting ready for a conversation battle.
"No, it helps it," I said and Genma nodded in agreement.
"Quiet, you tea lovers," she replied not getting into the argument.
After breakfast it was about 9:00 am now, I was making Genma a second cup of tea and giving Grandma her fourth cup of coffee. "Ali, I'm going to be visiting Tsunade for a little bit this morning. Are you ok with watching the shop until I get back?"
I gave her a confused look. "Yeah but who is..."
"The Hokage," Genma answered my question before I even asked it. "I'll walk you there before I head home," Genma stated before taking a sip of tea.
"Oh, Genma you're so sweet. If I was Ali's age, which is 20 by the way, I would marry you." I choked on my tea after Grandma said that. Genma patted my back making sure I was ok, which I was. "Any way we should go, come on Genma," Grandma demanded. After they left, I shut the door I couldn't help but think he needs an award for putting up with my Grandma because she's a handful.
- Gma -
The whole walk Gma Marcy was telling Genma everything she could about Ali, mostly repeating herself over and over again. Once they reached the Hokage building we said our goodbyes and went our separate ways.
"Good morning Tsunade," Grandma Marcy greeted.
"Hi Marcy, I met Ali yesterday she's such a sweetheart. I actually wasn't expecting you today, what brings you here?" Tsunade asked. "I wanted to ask you a favor." Tsunade raised a brow. You never know what to expect from this lady. "And that would be?"
"I want Ali to have a bodyguard," Gma Marcy stated.
"A bodyguard?" Tsunade repeated.
"Yeah, with her being new here I can see so many villagers hitting on her and you know she could, no, would get lost in the village. Also, it's about time she gets a boyfriend."
Tsunade raised a brow again, "Well if you put it like that I can assign a genin to..."
The Hokage didn't get to finish her sentence since Marcy cut her off, "She needs a male jounin."
Tsunade looked at her not knowing what Marcy was thinking. "Ok, maybe Aoba or Raidou, or maybe Guy?"
"No. She needs Genma."
Tsunade looked shocked but then smirked now understanding why she wants Ali to have a guard. "You want me to assign Genma to Ali, so the two of them can get closer. Then, possibly be more than friends?" Tsunade looked at Marcy.
"Sounds about right."
"You're the only 85 year old around here that could come up with something like this." Tsunade couldn't help but laugh. After about 20 minutes of talking Marcy finally went home, she couldn't wait to see how her plain would unfold.
