Sophie spent the next few hours flooding her brother's ears with how nervous she was to be introduced to Kevin's parents as his girlfriend. She was afraid of losing her job, afraid of them not liking her, afraid that she would say something stupid, etc.

Chris tried to listen as best as possible as they walked around the mall, but eventually he was tired of listening to the same thing over and over again. He put his tray down in front of Sophie while she sat at a table eating her own food in the food court, sitting across from her.

"I mean his sister seemed nice but what if—,"

"Sophie!" Chris exclaimed. "You have to relax. If you stay this nervous you're just gonna screw up when you get there. Obviously you won them over before when they hired you for a job so just pretend like you're applying for another job. Just relax and be yourself. Please. You're talking my ear off."

Sophie bit her lip. "I'm sorry. I know I'm so annoying. But he's my first boyfriend. I'm nervous, you know?"

Chris nodded. "I know. But I also know that you can talk to him about it if you really need to. I'm gonna go sit with his sister."

Sophie furrowed her eyebrows. "What?"

Chris flicked his chin in the direction of a table behind them, and Sophie turned to see Kevin and Stella seated at their own table in the food court, completely oblivious to the fact that Sophie and Chris were sitting there as well.

Chris smirked and got up with his food, walking over to their table. He put his food down and Kevin looked up at him, smiling. "Chris!" he exclaimed. "Wait, weren't you supposed to be with Sophie?" he asked.

Chris nodded and pointed behind Kevin to Sophie, who awkwardly waved in response. Kevin smiled and stood up, patting Chris on the back. "This is my sister Stella. Thanks."

He walked over to Sophie, who was looking up at him with an expression that made his heart leap in his chest. "You know, just being in the same room as you makes my heart do a weird thing. I should've known when I was having palpitations before that you were here."

Sophie rolled her eyes and chuckled. "It's probably a good thing that you're here. My brother was getting tired of me."

"Getting tired of you?" Kevin asked, sitting down in front of her. "How could that happen?"

"I've been talking about how nervous I am to meet your parents since we left the house," Sophie explained. Kevin looked at her with raised eyebrows.

"You're nervous to meet my parents? You already met them!"

"I knowww," Sophie whined. "But this time it's different. I'm not applying for a job. I'm being introduced as your girlfriend. It's scary."

Kevin smirked and reached his hand across the table to take Sophie's in his own. "You know how nervous I was meeting your parents?" Kevin asked. "When your mom approached me in the grocery store and told me who she was I thought I was going to pass out."

"But you acted so cool when we were at dinner," Sophie objected. "And you were the one who originally came up with the idea to meet them."

"I know, but that doesn't mean I wasn't nervous. In a way I kind of just wanted to get it over with because I knew I was gonna have to meet them eventually if I wanted to date you. It was so nerve wracking I was afraid I was gonna say something stupid and embarrass myself but it went really well, and it will with you too."

He squeezed her hand and she let out a sigh, nodding. "I know I shouldn't be worried," she said. Kevin nodded and let go of her hand, reaching up to squeeze her cheek.

"It's okay to be nervous. But I have an idea that I think you'll like. Finish shopping with your brother and then I'll pick you up from your house at 5, yeah?"

Sophie nodded and Kevin patted her head before standing up and walking back over to the table his sister was seated at. He patted Chris' back, cutting his conversation with Stella short.

Chris said goodbye to Stella and then took his food back over to Sophie, sitting down in front of her. "So?" he asked. "You feel any better?"

"Much," Sophie replied.
