Talia was in shock. What had just happened replayed over and over again in her mind. It wasn't until she felt someone shaking her shoulders that the girl snapped out of it.
"Talia! Talia! Talia, what happened?" a recognizable voice shouted.
The mentioned girl had to blink a couple times for her eyes to focus on Claire, who wore a worried expression on her face.
"Claire..." Talia spoke quietly.
"I'm here, I'm here. Are you okay?" Claire asked, wrapping her arms around Talia to help the girl walk over to the couches they had been sitting on.
"Is there something wrong with me?" Talia whispered sadly.
"What? Of course not, what's going on?" Claire asked, her voice laced with worry.
"We were dancing and then I guess I got the wrong message because I leaned in to kiss him, but he just said sorry and ran away! What did I do wrong?" Talia sighed in despair.
"What the fuck? You did nothing wrong, Tals. I'm gonna find him and give that bitch a piece of my mind!" a very pissed off Claire exclaimed.
The blonde was about to walk away to find Daniel but before she could, Talia grabbed her her arm to stop her.
"Don't. Let's just go home. Please," Talia said, looking up at Claire with teary eyes.
It was heart wrenching for Claire to see her best friend so upset and heartbroken. Claire nodded understandingly before sitting down next to Talia and wrapping her arms around her again.
"You don't deserve this," Claire sighed, rubbing Talia's back to comfort her. "C'mon, let's go home."
The ride home was silent. Talia sat in the uber with her hands covering her face while Claire tried to comfort her as much as she could, and the uber driver didn't dare say anything after seeing Talia's crying face enter his car.
Once they entered their apartment, Talia went straight to her room.
"You want me to stay with you?" Claire asked softly from the doorframe of Talia's room as she watched Talia plop onto her bed.
The blonde chewed on her lip worriedly when the only response she got from Talia was a sob. Claire sighed, going into the bathroom and grabbing a makeup wipe before walking to Talia. She struggled to turn Talia face upwards for a moment, and then gently wiped the crying girl's makeup off.
"I really like him," Talia said, her voice wavering.
"I know, I know. You'll get through this, okay? You're so strong," Claire said soothingly.
Talia scooted over to make space for Claire, who cradled her as she slowly fell asleep. Talia's mother always did this for her when she was sad as a child, and it was something Claire had caught onto after being at Talia's childhood home so often before the two best friends moved out to LA.
Claire tucked Talia in after she fell asleep and walked to her own bedroom. She checked her phone, quickly replying to texts from Christina and Gabbie to explain what happened.
"Omg! Is she okay?" Gabbie sent after finding out what happened.
"Not really :(" Claire replied.
"Does everyone else know?" Christina asked.
"Idk. Not sure if Daniel told anyone" Claire sent.
"Don't say anything for now. I'll ask Talia when she wakes up" Claire added.
The three talked for a while longer before calling it a night and texting "gn" to each other.
Claire sighed when she checked her text messages with her long distance boyfriend of a year, Jay, and was faced with the same "read yesterday" message. They had been fighting for a while now, and yet again, he had left her on read after paragraphs and paragraphs of passive aggressive texts.
Claire rubbed her temples, and closed her eyes after she turned her phone off. She really needed someone to rant to right now, but of course, Talia was not in the right condition to listen.
So the girl laid awake that night, ranting to herself in her head, not able to fall asleep until the early hour of two am.
About half an hour away, Daniel Seavey also laid awake that night. He was full of regret and sadness. The boy knew he fucked up, but Daniel couldn't bring himself to confide in anyone, fearing they would hate him for running off like that.
Damn it, why didn't he just kiss her? What was he so afraid of?
