“You have a baby girl,” Edward said and presented me our newborn child. Her blue eyes locked with my hazel ones and I felt tears flowing down my face. “You have another little girl,” I smiled and was overwhelmed. Carlisle beamed as well as he leaned down and kissed me. Edward walked around the bed and towards my side to give me my daughter. She was swaddled in a white blanket and a tuft of caramel colored hair could be seen from under the blanket. She searched frantically and as natural as it was I breastfed her. Carlisle moved next to me on the bed and laid his arm around us two. “I love you,” he whispered and kissed my temple. “As I love you,” I said and looked up from our daughter.
“She is beautiful,” I marveled and stroked her cheek with my finger. She watched me while she fed. “What do you want to call her?” I asked. Carlisle looked thoughtfully at her. Just then the baby made some noises and when I looked down, her face contorted and she began to cry. It wasn’t the normal cry of a newborn baby… It was a shrill and piercing cry that I had never heard before. I rocked her to calm her down but it wasn’t doing any good…
I looked at Carlisle for help, but he was gone… I looked around, but he was nowhere. “Carlisle?” I called. No response. “Carlisle?! Edward?” I tried, but still no response. “Alice? Rosalie?” There was no sound. “Carlisle?!” I screamed desperately. Our baby was crying even harder now… “Sh, sh, everything is fine,” I tried to calm her down once again, but to no avail. I held her in my arms to lay her on my shoulder maybe that helped. But when I held her to my face, her eyes opened and instead of the ocean blue they were crimson red…
I sat straight up in our bed. My hands fell to my belly and nothing had changed… I looked around and saw with relief that we were still on Isle Esme. I relaxed and sighed in relief as I fell back into the cushions. The windows were open and a cool breeze came through them, letting the white curtains fly, but also cooling me. It was just a dream, I thought and closed my eyes. Just a dream… “We are fine,” I whispered and drew circles on my stomach. I felt my heart slowly returning to its normal rhythm and my breathing slowed down, just a dream…
I opened my eyes again and looked out into the dark night. I couldn’t see anything. The bedroom was dark and the moon was covered with clouds, turning the world around me into darkness. I could hear the steady rhythm of the waves that calmed me down, but nothing else. I sat up again at once. Where was Carlisle? He had been lying next to me on the bed when I fell asleep. Why wasn’t he here now? “Carlisle?” I called in a normal volume. He would hear if I whispered and I didn’t want to wake up Carlie. Yet there was no response. No footsteps or voice, no indicator that he was here.
I swung the blanket away and sat up. I felt dizzy at once and nearly fell back onto the bed, but it disappeared after a few seconds. I stood up unsteadily and padded into the kitchen. The lights were all turned off. I quietly tiptoed into Carlie’s room. She was sleeping soundly in her crib with her teddy bear in one arm and holding a blanket with the other hand. Her mouth hung loosely in her sleep. Her chest moved up and down as she steadily breathed. I sighed and stroked Carlie’s curls. She didn’t stir and I quietly left the room.
I padded over to the door and opened it slightly. There was no sound from outside, but maybe Carlisle went for a swim… I clutched my robe closer to my body and stepped outside. The breeze whirled my hair around my face and my eyes had to adjust to the darkness at first. Then I saw the waves glittering as the moon momentarily shined through the clouds, only for a moment, but it was enough to see what I wanted to see…
I walked faster, my feet pulling me unerringly where I wanted to be without stumbling. The sand was cool under my bare feet as I walked determinedly. “There you are,” I exclaimed in relief and plopped down in the sand next to my husband. He lay there motionlessly, his eyes closed, but he was steadily breathing in and out. As he heard my voice, his eyes opened at once and he looked surprised. But surprise was replaced with worry as he saw my expression. He sat up and faced me, taking my hand in his. “What has happened?” he asked, his eyes searching mine for the explanation. “I had a nightmare,” I sighed. “It was so real, I really thought it was happening,” I told him. He was listening intently, taking in every word seriously. “What was it about?” I sighed and leaned against him. He embraced me at once, stroking my back soothingly. I told him what I could recall and he listened without saying a word.
“That won’t happen, my love. It’s just the worries playing tricks with your mind. Please, don’t worry,” he whispered and kissed my forehead. “It was just so real,” I repeated. “I know. I cannot remember the sensation, but I believe you that it could feel so real,” he soothed me. I sighed once more. “As long as it stays a dream, I would be fine with that,” I laughed lightly and cuddled closer. “I will be there and chase all those nightmares away,” he promised and kissed me.
That reminded me. “What are you even doing out here?” I wondered. He shifted so that he could look fully at me. “I don’t really know. The rhythm of the waves is strangely comforting and I can totally relax here. This beach is definitely a special place,” he chuckled. “Besides, you were getting cold. You were shivering tonight as you were cuddled to me. I didn’t want you to get cold, so I slipped out of bed and covered you with blankets to keep you warm. I unfortunately can’t warm you up, so I decided to take a calming walk and ended up here,” he said with a smile. “I’m sorry for throwing you out of bed,” I said and stroked his cheek. “If at all I threw myself out and it’s fine,” he winked and held me closer.
“I am not cold now,” I whispered and moved to sit on top of him. I leaned down then and kissed him passionately. His hands roamed my sides hungrily and he kissed me back. “I can see that,” he chuckled in between kisses. I giggled and kissed him again. After a few moments I broke the kiss to breathe and Carlisle took the opportunity and totally unexpectedly, started to tickle my sides. I was so surprised that I fell sideways into the soft sand. I took a deep breath as Carlisle stopped the tickling and hovered over me with a wide grin. “What are you smiling at?” I asked with a smirk.
That caused another round of tickling. “I surrender,” I squeaked and moved my hands above my head as a sign of surrender. He stopped and kissed me again. “I love you,” he moaned between two kisses. I sighed, “I love you so much,” I responded. “No more nightmares…” he whispered and kissed down my neck. “Not with my dream husband next to me,” I whispered and closed my eyes.
I know it's a little short and I apologize for that. I will try to make the next longer:)
