This is Esme's and Renesmee's day together as well as Carlisle'' day alone with Carlie. Both events happen simultaneously and the point of view switches between them. I hope you'll like it :)
On Wednesday, exactly four days before her birthday, Renesmee and I wanted to spend some time alone. So that right now I was driving the short way to Edward and Bella’s house to pick up my little princess. She told everyone excitedly what we had planned and I was happy that she was so thrilled to spend some time with her grandma. I didn’t mind the title at all, though she couldn’t quite call me that in public without earning some weird looks. Carlie was staying at home with Carlisle and the rest of our family. She was in fact thrilled to spend an entire day just playing with her father before the lectures started again in two weeks. So everyone was happy.
I stopped the engine and got out of Carlisle’s Mercedes. Alice had dressed me in blue chinos with a white blouse, a blue blazer and fortunately beige suede flats. She would have liked to see me in high heels but I was strictly against it in case I could fall with them. Carlisle defended my choice as soon as he heard my words, so Alice relented grudgingly. I walked up to the front porch and before I could ring the bell, Renesmee threw open the door and hugged me. Edward and Bella appeared seconds later. “She has unnerved us for days now, she wouldn’t even sleep last night,” Edward joked. Nessie glared at him and Edward held his hands up in surrender. “Daddy,” she laughed and hugged him as well. “So, are you ready?” I asked her. “Yes!” she smiled broadly. “Okay then,” I smiled and she took my hand after hugging her parents once more. Edward and Bella waved as we climbed into the car.
“So? What do you want to do?” I asked her through the rearview mirror. She thought about it. “Could we maybe go to the mall? I would like to go to the bookstore and I wanted to buy something for Mommy and Daddy,” she smiled. “Of course and maybe after that eat lunch in your favorite restaurant and a movie?” I asked her as I drove us right out of Hanover and to the mall. “Yes!” she replied enthusiastically. Renesmee told me all about her birthday on the ride to the mall. “Mom and Aunt Rose and Alice have prepared everything for our garden. Aunt Alice says we will have wonderful weather on my birthday. Mommy even let me wear my dress all day yesterday,” she giggled. “I saw Alice and Rosalie prepare your head band,” I told her. “Really?? They won’t show me,” she pouted. “It’s beautiful. Just have patience, it’s only four more days and surprises can be cool,” I comforted her. “Yeah…” she relented, her smile returned though. Our family was just smiling and laughing most of the time. There must be something, I thought and laughed.
“Did you like Mommy’s and Daddy’s surprise on Rosie’s birthday?” she asked me. “Rosie?” I asked her confused. She looked down and blushed a bit. “I mean Carlie, I just think that Rosie is such a sweet nickname,” she mumbled. I laughed lightly. “It is, I like it. You can call her that if you want to, I don’t mind. We call you Nessie all the time, too,” I told her. She looked up to me. “And yes, I loved it, we all did. We had a wonderful time on my island,” I smiled and reached back to stroke her knee.
She held my hand there and played with my engagement ring. “It’s so pretty,” she whispered and I wasn’t sure if she talked to herself. “Grandpa chose well,” I laughed, “but he could have chosen a piece of plastic, I would have loved it nonetheless. The promise behind it means so much more to me,” I said thoughtfully and smiled when I remembered his touching speech. I looked up and saw her smile at me full of emotions. “I love you, grandma,” she whispered. “I love you, too,” I smiled and squeezed her hand affectionately. “I want to have such a ring as well when I am older. The butterfly is so cool and unique and the stones sparkle in the light,” she talked fast to get out as much as possible. “Yes,” I laughed. I parked the car in the parking lot and leant back in the seat. “We are there already?” she asked surprised. “We’ve talked quite a bit,” I smiled and got out of the car. She followed me to the entrance of the mall, holding onto my arm.
