(Carlisle's POV)

I returned to Haven's room alone. Edward was still babysitting Carlie and was waiting for Bella, Nessie, Charlie and Sue to arrive and I had an inkling that there would be already too many people in the room, at least by the nurses' and doctors' measure. I got into my green gown in a relaxed manner for a change and just tied the last knot in the back as I got to the room. I had been right. Rosalie and Alice stood around the incubator, gushing and cooing over Haven, who, as I checked, was sleeping. Esme stood against the wall casually, but visibly tired though a soft smile played on her lips as she watched the three. As she spotted me in the door, her smile widened and she walked over to me to give me a hug. I laid my arms around her and sighed.

"Liam was just here," she explained. "Haven's state has remarkably improved and if the pace stays that way, he can release him in a few days," she grinned happily. "And he has already removed the IV as well. He was astounded and had never seen such a quick recovery before." I grinned as well and watched Rosalie and Alice being so happy.

After a moment I looked down to Esme, also watching the girls, and I smiled to myself as I moved her chin up with my thumb. She faced me with her big hazel eyes and they melted as they met my gaze. Esme had understood without a word and she stood on her tiptoes as I leaned down to her height and kissed her lightly. I got lost in the feeling of her lips against mine though and lifted Esme off of her feet so that she was as tall as I was. Her hands rested on my shoulders and I rejoiced in the sensations as a loud cough woke me up. I opened my eyes at once and first I met Esme's gaze and my thoughts went a totally different direction once again, but then Alice walked into my line of sight with an amused, but slightly disapproving expression.

"I think Mom and Dad need some time together," she grinned. I mumbled an apology and looked at Esme. She blushed deeply and looked to my shoulders. I realized then that I was still holding her up and quickly set her down on her feet.

"Sorry," I mumbled and without another glance at Esme, walked over to Haven. Alice only grinned and hugged Esme.

Rosalie still stood next to Haven and smiled softly at him. I stood next to her and watched Haven as well. He was fine. Finally. In only the short time I was away, he had changed remarkably, though only slightly visible for a human. His skin color had changed to a more healthy tone, his heartbeat had a healthy pace and his breathing was nearly free of rattling. Just as I stroked his fingers, his eyes opened and I gazed into his blue ones. I smiled wider at him and didn't let go of his hand. A hint of a smile tucked at the corners of his mouth and I smiled even broader in return.

"You did great, buddy," I whispered and kissed his tiny hand. I didn't notice Esme until she squeezed between me and Haven and stroked his tummy. She smiled beautifully at our son and I couldn't help but press a kiss to her lips.

"How is the little guy?" Robert asked suddenly and again I had been so lost in the situation that I hadn't heard him...

"Fine, he is awake," Esme smiled broadly at Robert and rushed over to him to give him a gentle hug. I watched Robert returning the hug happily, a smile playing on his lips as well. I thought that from now on, our family had gained another close friend and Esme would be only too happy to him in our lives. I had never thought that Robert would ever mean so much to me when I still worked here. I had regarded him as a good colleague, one that I liked to talk to and spend my breaks with, but now he became somewhat a friend. Esme finally let go of Robert and he made his way over to me. He greeted me before he turned to Haven.

"Good morning, little one," he smiled softly at Haven and opened the incubator. "I have some good news for you. Do you want to hear it?" he asked him and Haven curiously shifted his gaze from me to him as if he would understand, which to some extent he probably already could. Robert didn't hesitate and carefully lifted Haven out of the incubator. "You will get a crib again, those incubators aren't that comfortable, huh?" he told him as he cradled Haven in his arms, who only wore a diaper. "His results just came and it is as if he only had a bad cold, he recovers remarkably fast," he told us with a glorious smile. Esme's face lit up and she hugged Alice happily to her. "We will give him something for the coughing and rattling sounds, but we can release him very soon," Robert continued. "But for now, buddy, what about some clothes and Mommy and Daddy?" he added softly and looked up to me.
