Carlisle parked our car in the driveway of our old house. A week had already passed and lots of planning was finished for Nessie’s party. It will be at Edward’s and Bella’s house and Renesmee also wanted to invite some of her friends, she had met on several occasions. Today we would just spend the day with them, as I had realized only later, we rarely were over at their place, we mostly were at our house. Carlisle got out of the car and before I could even use the door handle, he had opened my door. “Thank you,” I giggled. He smiled happily.
I think we were all still overly happy and enthusiastic over the unbelievable fact that we survived the Volturi’s attack and came out of the fight without a scratch, well, without ones that couldn’t heal. I was back to normal for a long time now. Our baby has accelerated my healing process and before Carlie’s birthday I was already nearly healed. My rib was fine since Isle Esme, so I had no reminder of those dark days anymore! I was totally healthy and what Carlisle always told me: radiant because of the pregnancy. He couldn’t stop watching me. Now, at the beginning of September, I was already in the 7th month. I had the feeling I was growing from day to day, but Carlisle assured me that wasn’t the case. He didn’t have the problems sitting down…
“Are you fine?” Carlisle asked me as I zoomed out. “Yes, sorry, just thinking,” I smiled and stroked his arm. He returned the gesture. “Out,” Carlie whined from the backseat. We laughed, but Carlisle opened her door at once and lifted her out of the seat. She wore the most adorable pout, though it disappeared fast as soon as she saw Edward standing on the front porch. She ran over to him as fast as her short legs could carry her. We followed her slowly.
Edward laughed and swung her around in a circle as soon as he had her in his arms. “How is it going, baby girl?” he asked her. She smiled and showed him something through her touch. He smiled and kissed her hair. “Welcome in the second Cullen residence,” he joked and led us inside. I knew the house of course; we had all lived in here before we were joined by Alice and Jasper in 1950. Edward and Bella had changed the interior a lot, but it was still home.
We walked into the light-flooded kitchen and Edward offered me and Carlie a drink. As he prepared two glasses of orange juice, I looked at all the drawings of Renesmee that hung on the fridge. There were simple but beautiful ones of Renesmee when she was around a year old in her development, but also recent ones. They looked more like art pieces than a drawing of a supposedly two year old, looking like a 9 year old. Then I noticed a drawing that showed all of us. It was an older one, but Nessie had written “my family” over it in her childish handwriting and we were all represented by a figure with our features.
“These are beautiful drawings,” I told Edward. He looked over to me and a smile appeared on his face. “Yes, we cannot pin every one of her paintings, but her and our most favorite ones hang here. She gives us new ones every day,” he laughed. Edward walked over to me and handed me the glass of freshly made orange juice. I thanked him and sipped on it. “Here you go, drink carefully, sweetie,” Carlisle told our daughter and helped her drink out of the, for her, huge glass. “Come on into the garden, it’s still nice outside,” Edward told us and we followed him out.
It resembled ours quite a bit, with the addition of a swing and a slide. Carlie dragged Carlisle and me over to the swing at once. Edward pushed her as we sat on the bench nearby. “Where are Bella and Renesmee by the way?” I asked him as I noticed their absence only now. Edward shook his head in amusement. “They went on a shopping tour with Alice and Rosalie. Alice apparently still wants to use her college free time to go on numerous shopping trips. I think she also planned one for you, if not for today, but don’t tell her I told you,” he winked. I groaned and the guys laughed. “So you can imagine Bella’s mood,” Edward laughed. “I sure can,” I smirked and couldn’t await Alice dragging me out of town. “They were supposed to be back before you guys arrived, though, so they should be here any minute,” he told me. “How comes you are spared?” Carlisle smirked. “Someone has to be home in case our guests arrive earlier,” he explained mischievously. We all laughed. “Ed, Ed,” Carlie called to get Edward’s attention. He smiled lovingly at her and started to push her a bit higher, making her smile. Suddenly both their heads snapped up and they smiled. I just wanted to ask them, when Carlie jumped off the swing and toddled over to the house, singing: “Nessie,” the whole time. Carlisle followed her.
