'No one has ever asked me to go to a party before.' I tell her nervously. Why would I say that? She is probably the coolest person I know and I told her that. I'm such an idiot.

'Then you are definitely going. It's a Gold Party so you better look your best.' She walks into her closet and starts looking through her clothes.

'What is a Gold Party?' I ask her timidly. She turns and looks at me in shock like I have told her her dog has just died.

'A Gold Party is the first party of the school year where everyone has to wear gold outfits.' She informs me. I turn slowly towards my closet and look at it before rotating back to Samantha.

'Samantha, I don't own any gold outfits.' I almost whisper at her in shame. She peeks into my ordinary regular closet and shows a look of disbelief.

'You know that's alright. I am sure I can find you something in my closet.' Samantha frantically searches through her closet until she pulls out a 1920's style golden flapper dress with matching heels. 'Perfect. Take these, and please call me Sam.' She hands me the outfit and I realise I must be holding at least £1000 worth of clothes. I shut myself in my closet whilst I get changed.

Afterwards I step out and look at Sam who smiles at me. She is wearing a golden sequin wrap dress that touches the floor. 'You look stunning. Come and see.' Sam drags me over to the mirror in her closet and you know she is right. This is probably the first time I have looked genuinely beautiful.

'We don't have time to do your makeup properly but maybe I can do your hair.' She yanks the hairband that was holding my ponytail in place. I flinch as she messes with my blonde hair. 'That will have to do.' Sam says and I open my eyes to see that my hair looks surprisingly okay.  The blonde ringlets fall down to my shoulders untidily but it works.

'Are we all set then?' Sam asks and she takes my phone out of my hand and puts it in her bag. 'Let's go.' I say with an unusual amount of confidence.
