One late night (or early morning) accident tangles the lives of two people into a deep knot.
Elyssa and Olivia have differences. But what they share is much more deeper.
They share one fear and one dark past. And one growing crush on each other.
...
First half of the day we spent doing nothing in particular, Elyssa's head got better and she could even walk without losing her balance. We ate left over food and then Elyssa decided to rip of the band aid and called her team. They agreed to come here to meet with her. Elyssa was fidgety while she was waiting for them, I tried to calm her but she wouldn't listen.
Soon enough 2 people came and sat in the living room. From their glances at Elyssa, it was easy to tell that they were angry. I didn't move from my desk and only looked at the situation from the side.
Don't want to get on the bad side of the fucking FBI.
"Rami, Julie, nice to see you somewhere with normal lighting and no rats." Elyssa said, seeing that they were not going to start the conversation. The woman, I assume Julie, chuckled. But the man, Rami, didn't budge. He still looked at Elyssa, trying to murder her with his eyes.
"What were you thinking?" Rami said after few more minutes of silence. Elyssa's playful expression changed in to a scowl. "I was thinking about her and my safety which you haven't acknowledged since day one" Elyssa didn't sound angry. She was just stating the facts.
Like an officer.
I still couldn't get my head around the fact that she is a freaking FBI agent. Also that her father is a gang leader whom she is supposed to catch. And that to protect me she went in to risk of exposing herself and got in to even more problems.
All I am trying to say is that the situation is really twisted.
"How telling her the details of undisclosed undercover operation is helping you to ensure her safety?" Rami answered angrily. Elyssa rolled her eyes at him emphasizing the importance of mission.
She turned her face to Julie kind of cutting of the conversation with Rami. "Let's not yell, we don't need any extra attention. Telling her all the information was coming for a long time." Elyssa said while looking at both Rami and Julie.
I guess 'her' is me.
"I had no other choice. I got 1-week discharge and they don't want me to be back unless I agree to kill her. The second subject is on my tail for false information and both of them are in a war preparation." Elyssa counted problems on her fingers.
"War?" Julie and Rami said at the same time. "Yes, it is happening sooner than we expected. Probably next month. We need to get at least one of them to stop this." Elyssa said while looking at Rami.
"I admit that false information plan was a failure. It only created more problems." Rami said and Elyssa nodded. "Good, at least we agree in somethings."
Seeing that they were done arguing, Julie turned towards me. "Sorry, I didn't introduce myself, I am detective Julianna, and this is Chief Officer Ramirez. We are in charge of Elyssa's operation." I nodded.
"Nice to finally meet you Olivia Brooks." Ramirez said and smiled towards me.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
He called me by my old surname. I changed Brooks to Anderson when I moved out. If he knows this, it means that he knows other stuff too.
He is even teasing me about it.
Elyssa looked confused by the expression on my face but didn't say anything, waiting for me to answer.
"Didn't know that rich people liked old apartments. Is this something you do for fun or?" Seeing that I wasn't answering, Ramirez kept going.
I clenched my jaw in anger. "I wonder why aren't you digging this stuff up for criminals. Oh right, you can't. Because it is illegal." I said and kept looking at Ramirez, waiting for his next move.
"Would you look at this, our sheep Is waving the 'I have rights' flag around. Just like her father." He made sure to emphasize the last part and look directly at my eyes.
Asshole.
Of course, they all hate my father. He is a lawyer, but he usually goes on to protect the criminals, calling it a funny challenge of going against the law with law. I decided to keep my opinions about all of this to myself and just stared boldly at him.
"Stop this, Olivia's live is none of your concern. Especially when we have a problem like criminal war in our hands." Elyssa stood up and walked towards me. She leaned on to my shoulder, and nodded towards Julianna. "I managed to plant the drive. What's next?"
Julianna nodded in satisfaction. "Good, at least this is going as planned. It is programmed to automatically make a copy of anything. You will need to sneak back in and get it back in a week or so. The program works surprisingly slow." Julianna sighed and looked over at Ramirez.
"What should we do about the false information problem?" He didn't answer right away and thought it out for a moment.
"I think, the best thing is to wait. Soon enough they might make a move and we will answer it. If they don't do anything, I suggest just forgetting about that problem." Elyssa nodded in understanding.
"Yeah, I don't need any extra enemies, we can just wait them out. Meanwhile I will find a way to get back the drive and it will all finally be over." She added with a tired sigh.
"Good, it is settled then. Get in contact when you have done it." Julianna said and stood up. Ramirez nodded and did the same.
"I'll call you when I am done." Elyssa said and Ramirez shook his head. "Calls are too public and risky. We will be staying in the Hostel, few streets down from here, ask for Howard when you get there."
Elyssa smiled. "Always using the same cover name, one day you are going to get caught because of it." He chuckled, and turned towards me. "I hope you know that what you have heard here today, should stay strictly between us, Brooks."
I nodded with a fake smile. "I know the law, Officer."
