"I know, I'm sorry," I interrupt my mother's rant, rushing around the living room to grab all my textbooks and notes to stuff into my backpack. I let out a sigh when I see her still standing behind me with her arms crossed, clearly disappointed in what happened. Dad stands behind her with his eyes glancing between the two of us, trying to figure out what to do. Just by his face, I can already tell that he's thinking my mom's being dramatic. It's not the end of the fucking world that I'm a little bit late. "look, I know I shouldn't have passed out and forgotten to shower, but I did. There's nothing to change that and-"

"Well, now, you've made your sisters late to school and when you get home today, you'll lose your phone privileges unless you're at school," Mom says before turning around and walking into the kitchen without another glance at me. I groan, turning to look at my dad, who's now staring at me. His hands are discarded in the pockets of his work pants while he peers at me under his eyelashes, clearly displaying his sympathy without doing anything about it.

"Come on, Dad, you know she's being unreasonable. I fell asleep way too soon and forgot to shower. I'm so sorry that I had to clean myself this morning and going to make Millie and Sammy late by two whole minutes," I plead, not being able to hold in the sassy tone from creeping into my voice. I continue to watch him for a few minutes, eventually turning into a staring match between the two of us.

Dad doesn't say anything, just throws his arms up in surrender and walks into the kitchen with my mom. I let out another sigh before continuing to put all my supplies in my backpack, knowing that if I don't leave soon, Mom will keep my phone forever. The last thing I want right now is to give her any more reason to be angry with me.

"Millie! Sammy! Let's go," I call to my sisters, walking over to the front door to grab my car keys. I look up when I hear more than two pairs of footsteps coming into the foyer. My mom walks in with her arms crossed, obviously still pissed off.

"School, then home immediately. No hanging out with Rosa and Gavin, nothing like that," Mom warns me, thrusting a finger at me to make her point get across even more. I let out a frustrated sigh, throwing my hands up in surrender.

"I got it, calm down," I snap, not giving her time to answer before I throw the front door open and rush out to the car. Millie and Sammy follow silently behind me and get into the car without saying a single word. The drive to school is silent because I think my sisters could tell that I'm trying to calm down before we get there. Once we arrive, I sign Sammy into the middle school quickly before going to the high school and rushing to my first class.

"Mr. Marsh, nice of you to join us," the teacher tells me, grabbing the late slip from my hand before continuing to ramble on about the presentation that's on the board. I collapse into my seat next to Rosa, who immediately hits my shoulder and sends me a tiny glare. But as her friend of more than five years, the worry in her eyes is also prominent, no matter how hard she tries to hide it. I can always see through her emotions. Perks of being best friends.

"Why the hell were you late?" She whispers, angry that I left her alone in class since that's usually when she would copy my homework since English isn't her specialty. I wave her off, not wanting to talk right now when I'm still mad at my parents for being unreasonable. "Blaine, what happened?"

When she sees the anger present in my body, the worry deep her eyes comes through because it's not often that I get this angry. I'm usually such a chill, laid back person about things and I'm not acting like that right now. "I accidentally fell asleep before showering last night and I rushed to do it this morning, but I still took long, so my mom yelled at me all this morning and she's taking my phone away once I get home."

"Damn," Rosa whispers, turning her head to stare at the ground in disbelief. "your parents really are strict."

I glare at her and she chuckles before holding her hands up in surrender. I clamp my mouth shut to hold in my groan, not wanting to deal with also being yelled at the teacher this morning. "You've met them, so you know how big of an ass they can be when we don't follow their 'rules'."
