I slowly wake from my deep slumber to see the room I'm laying in is pitch black with the only light coming in is from the moon peeking through the window. I take my time to sit up, my muscles aching and cracking the moment I move. I realize that the reason I've awaken is because my phone vibrates on the nightstand next to the bed and I grab it before squinting at the bright light. Once my eyes adjust to the screen, I see that I have two texts from Millie and Sammy in the group chat we've had for ages.

Edwin has been great the entire time & really listens to me!! he seems to understand that you two & Evie are my siblings & him & Alexei don't want to take you away from me. I think I'll be happy here Blaine I really do, Millie texts us. It makes my heartache that she has already semi-adjusted to where she is when I haven't even tried. All I've done is get some information out of the people here, but that's it. I lower my eyes to see the text Sammy had sent after our sister did.

Bradleys really nice!!!! he really appreciates Blaine and all youve done for me. and Agnes has been great too. I think itll take some time for her to know me because shes kinda awkward but I think ill be happy here too!!, she writes. I know I should be glad that my sisters are adjusting to their lives, but at the same time, I'm bitter at the fact that they're getting used to it so quickly. It's like they forgot about Mom and Dad when it hasn't even been a week. Did they just forget who raised them?

I throw my phone down on the bed before letting out a long sigh. I didn't hear anyone moving around downstairs and that might have to do that it's a little past one in the morning, so I feel well enough to go down by myself. I carefully stand from the bed before slipping out of my room. I look at the cracks under Liza and Wynter's rooms to see that their lights aren't on and I don't hear any movement from inside. Jackson's room is downstairs along with Paige and Lukas's bedroom, so I don't know if they're sleeping, but I'm hopeful that they are.

I go back to my room to quickly take out my contacts and push my glasses onto my face, my eyes irritated from having those things in for a long time. I try to be as quiet as possible as I walk down the stairs, but I don't know the house well enough to remember which stairs creak. They aren't loud enough to wake up anyone, but I still take it very slowly until I reach the bottom. I look around the living room to see it being lit up by the TV playing some superhero movie that I haven't seen in a long time. It isn't light enough to show me if there's anyone on the couch or anything, but I'm assuming that-

"Hey," a voice says while the lamp sitting next to the couch turns on. I jolt back with my hand flying up to my chest while my head snaps to the side to see Javi sitting on the couch with a small smile on his lips. He chuckles lightly when he sees my reaction before pausing the TV to stop the movie from playing. "sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."

"Don't worry about it," I tell him, even though my breath is still heavy and my heartbeat is going crazy. If that had been my parents back at home, I would've gotten yelled at so much and had my phone taken away for weeks and the closet might've come into play if I was loud enough, but I guess times are changing. "uh, what're you doing here? I thought you lived a few doors down."

Javi nods his head before standing up to come over to me. As he stands a few feet away from me, I finally get a good chance to look over him without being worried about someone getting suspicious. He has full, thick black hair that's no longer gelled back like it was when I met him this morning. His stubble is a bit cleaned up, telling me that he probably showered and shaved since the last time I saw him. His skin is tanner than mine, making me think that he's Hispanic or has other Spanish descent.

I'm pulled out of my thoughts when he crosses his arms over his chest. "I'm going to sleep here for the first few nights, in case you need anything. Lukas was going to sleep out here himself since he didn't think you would be comfortable to go into his and Paige's bedroom, but I offered to do it for him. It's not like there's much at my house that I need to care for."
