"I promise you that I'm not having sex with my roommate," Javi tells me, forcing himself not to laugh as he informs me through our FaceTime screen. We've started a habit of video-chatting at night since whenever he doesn't spend the night here, I usually don't see him all day because it would be risky for me to go to his house with how often Lukas visits him there to talk.
"All I'm saying is that you worked pretty late with Chris tonight," I explain to him with a playful smile on my face. After thinking he was cheating on me with that guy – who I now know as his cousin – I found out that Javi isn't the type of person to ever be unfaithful.
Javi rolls his eyes before shifting on his bed so he's laying on his stomach. From what I can see, he props his head up on his hand and his legs swing back and forth behind his head. "I told you that Chris has fucked two guys and now you're worried that he-"
"I'm not worried," I interrupt him before narrowing my eyes. "or should I be?"
Javi groans before burying his face in his mattress in exasperation. I chuckle before watching as he picks his head up again, running his hand through his hair. He's just gotten out of the shower when he called, so his hair is still wet and practically dripping down his bare shoulders. I forced him to put pants on since I didn't want to see his dick and run the risk of getting a boner when everyone in the house is still awake. I go to say something, but there's a knock at my door. I instantly sit up, staring at the door even though I'll have to tell the person to come in eventually. Javi seems to notice that something's wrong because he sits up. "What's going-"
"I gotta go," I rush out into the microphone on my headphones. "I'll call you later."
I don't even glance at Javi's face on the small screen as I end the call before rushing up and opening my bedroom door. On the other side is Lukas and Paige standing there, whispering to each other until they see me swing the door open. My face pales because if they heard Javi and I talking... even if they couldn't hear Javi because of the headphones, they could hear me. Maybe they heard me mention Chris... who they know is Javi's roommate so they could easily put two-and-two together and-
"Talking to Rosa?" Lukas asks in a happy voice, which instantly makes me feel better. They hadn't suspected anything. Ever since Javi and I started video-chatting a lot, I made an excuse that I was talking to Rosa since it would be suspicious if I was talking to my sisters every night. They already know how much I'm trying to give them time to adjust, so it would be hypocritical if I told them I'm FaceTiming with them almost every night. And even though I haven't talked to Rosa since the day she sold me out to the principal, it's still believable because they had no idea that that was going on.
She's tried to text me multiple times since I've come here along with Gavin, my other friend, but so far, I haven't answered. I don't really think I would be able to have a conversation with them because they both were set on bailing on Andrew and Rebecca as soon as they found something that might've not been true at that moment. I don't want to surround myself with that, so I pushed them out of my life. Maybe for good or maybe not, I don't know.
Speaking of my parents, ever since I started going to therapy, Melanie has slowly been helping me move on. We've gotten to the point where it actually hurts to call them 'Mom' and 'Dad' and when I brought that up in one of our sessions, we decided that calling them by their names – Rebecca and Andrew – would be the best option. So far, it's been hard to transition, but I'm starting to get used to it.
"Yeah, talking to Rosa," I tell Lukas before motioning for them to come in. We all get comfortable on my big bed and I wait for one of them to talk because they obviously had something on their mind.
"So," Paige says, glancing at Lukas with an excited smile. "we wanted to talk to you about your birthday."
"My birthday?" I ask, confused since my birthday is four months away. There's no reason we should even mention me turning 19 so soon, but with the way they look, they seem to want to get into it.
