After spending half of the morning talking to Javi about random things about our lives while packing up the rest of my things, we're officially ready to head back home. It's been a good day so far if I'm being honest. I learned all about his grandmother, who he lived with until he was 15, and I found out that she's in a nursing home now and loves where she's at. She has diabetes that needs to be heavily monitored along with multiple other things that makes it hard for her to move around.

I had asked, "Who pays for the nursing home?"

"My uncle does. When I was 15, after Lito died, my uncle showed up and told me where she would be going. He was worried about her breaking something when moving around while trying to care for me, so he found a really nice home for her," Javi told me with a smile, telling me that he has no problems with his uncle. He didn't sound bitter or anything that his grandmother was taken away from him, just happy that she's okay.

I found out that he calls his grandfather Lito and his grandmother Lita – short for abuelito and abuelita. Soon after he started to tell me things about his family, I realized that they mainly speak Spanish, which means that if I ever meet them, I probably wouldn't understand a thing they were saying. But I didn't care because with what he's told me, he has a supportive family. Even though his entire family didn't want anything to do with Javi's mother, they still were close with Javi once he got clean.

I also realized that Javi doesn't talk about his mother. He hasn't told me if she died or if she's still alive somewhere, but I'm assuming that either Javi doesn't know or doesn't like talking about it. I won't push him to tell me since it obviously will affect him, but I'm hopeful that someday, he'll open up to me.

My eyes scan up-and-down the house that had been my home for 15 years. The unkempt lawn, the chipped paint on the outside of the house, the vines that had gradually crawled up the side of the house until it completely blocked one of the windows in my room. I look at all of it because this will probably be the last time I'll ever see it.

Detective Heath had told me the city would be taking our house after my parents got sentenced since they wouldn't be able to pay for it anymore. After I told Millie and Sammy that, the adults they're staying with had planned a day for them to come out and get their stuff as well. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a day where all of us come do it together, but I'm okay with that. They need to adjust without being influenced by me or anyone else.

"You ready to go?" Javi asks as he sets the last box into the moving truck before sliding the door closed. When I don't say anything to him, he comes over to me before looking up at the house that I'm still staring at. "Blaine?"

"It's hard," I admit, even though I don't want to be one of those guys that as soon as they get into a relationship – or whatever this is – they tell the person they're with all of their problems. But right now, I don't know what else to do. If I don't get my thoughts out now, I would be thinking about them for the five-hour drive that I would be taking alone.

Javi lets out a sigh and crosses his arms over his chest, glancing over at me with a small smile. "I know it is, but it'll be good. You're moving on to a different chapter of your life, so look at the positives. You have some great siblings that want nothing but the best for you-"

"Except Jackson," I interrupt, making Javi chuckle lightly at the truth.

"Yeah, okay, I guess Jackson's still warming up to you," he tells me before letting out a sigh, turning serious again. "but this will be hard and you know that. Things will get rough and you'll want to come back here, but it'll also be good. You have amazing people in your life, Blaine, so let them help you through this."
