The next morning, I slowly rise from my bed after a long night of sleep. My muscles ache with every movement, cracking in various places. They're sore from spending all of yesterday in bed, except for one hour when I watched an episode of some crime show with Lukas, Javi, Liza, and Wynter. I didn't even say anything to them, just watched until it was over. I went back to my room after that, not up for talking. Around midnight, I snuck down to got food and thankfully, Javi hadn't said anything this time, even though he was still awake on the couch.
I had woken up around 6:30 this morning to hear a lot of movement from downstairs and the room next to me. I'm assuming Wynter and Jackson were getting ready for school since it's Monday while Liza got ready for work. I only stayed awake for a few minutes to hear what was going on, but I passed out shortly after that.
And now, I'm fully awake and dreading to go downstairs. Not only would I be alone with Lukas and Paige today, but they would definitely ask me about the panic attack that happened yesterday. Every time they saw me afterward, it was obvious that they wanted to ask about it, but thankfully, they hadn't. But now, it's a new day. They would probably ask now.
I put my glasses on to make the world less blurry before changing out of my pajamas. Once I'm in real people clothes, I make my way down the stairs. I look into the living room to see that it's bare, but I can hear someone moving around in the kitchen. I follow the noise until I stand in the entryway to the dining and kitchen area and I see Lukas standing at the stove, pushing things around in a pan. When he hears me walking towards him, his head picks up with a big smile.
"Hi!" He says in a perky voice. As I move closer, I see that he's making pancakes along with sausage links, which smells absolutely delicious. Lukas clears his throat before grabbing a mug that has steaming coffee in it and handing it to me. "So, Paige had to go into work for a big trauma that was coming in, so she'll probably be back later. Javi's outside working on one of our cars, so for right now, it's just us. Hungry?"
"A bit," I say, my voice hoarse from practically not talking for 20 hours.
Lukas nods before piling the cooked pancakes and sausage onto a plate and sliding it to me. "Eat up, then we'll talk about school."
"School?" I ask in disbelief, taking a bite of the extremely hot sausage link. I breathe out of my mouth as I bite into it, trying to get some cool air in there to not burn my mouth too much.
Lukas turns to me with a small smile before nodding his head. He looks around the kitchen that's empty, except for the two of us. "Well, I guess we can talk now. Uh, so, Paige and I are going to call the school tomorrow and tell them all that's going on. We're getting your transcript transferred now, so it won't be long for the school to figure out what classes you should be in. I know you haven't had much time to adjust, but we think it's best to not hold you back from your education any longer. Is that alright with you?"
It definitely makes my stomach turn at the fact that I'll be going to a school without my friends here. It's my senior year and I'll be starting at a new school in the middle of the year with only knowing Wynter and Jackson. That's extremely nerve-wracking to me, but I also know that it has to be done. "Yeah, I guess that's alright. Don't you work at the school?"
Lukas chuckles before shaking his head. "I'm an English teacher at the closest private school, so that's kinda how we afford everything. The tuition at the school is pretty high, so I get paid much more than public school teachers."
Oh, okay, so now it all makes sense. It didn't make sense that a public school teacher and a registered nurse could afford this house, but now that I know that, it's understandable. "Oh, okay."
"Yeah, so you'll be there with Wynter and Jax. Jax is only in 10th grade, so you might see him, but I don't know," Lukas tells me with a shrug of his shoulders while he continues to flip some pancakes.
